Glacier NP - Apikuni Falls

Photos of Apikuni Falls in the Many Glacier area look really interesting.

I've seen ratings for that hike (1.7 miles return and elevation gain of about 600 ft) that range from "easy" to "mean" (due to that much gain in a short hike).

Anybody gone there have comments?

The waterfall in Glacier I am planning to visit is the St. Mary and perhaps I will continue to Virginia waterfall. http://www.philarmitage.net/glacier_hikes.html
I am hoping to travel the Going to the Sun road and the trail head is off that road. Many Glacier looks beautiful as well.
Check my link for easier hikes.
There are higher waterfalls in Oregon that you can walk up close to or even behind that are less than a mile from a paved road.

I've seen that web site. I'm hoping to restrict the number of long hikes. I'm getting too old for that.

Since I'm planning on Glacier this summer I think the Oregon waterfalls may be somewhat far as a daytrip. Maybe a future trip.

While Apikuni Falls are beautiful, I don't think it's the best the park has to offer. Here's a good site with best waterfall hikes in the park: http://www.hikinginglacier.com/glaci...fall-hikes.htm. Virginia Falls is my favorite hike in the park. It's another fairly short hike but there is some steep climbing near the end, but well worth it as you will be able to stand at the base of the falls.

wave725,

I've been using that web site a lot. It's just that they rate Apikuni Falls as very easy but I've read that it's quite steep due to the elevation gain in such a short distance.

Have you gone to Apikuni?

Virginia Falls is also on my list.

wave725,
I assume you've hiked to Apikuni Falls. How bad is the elevation gain over that short a distance?

That's 625 feet in less than .9 mile. That's a lot of climbing over such a short distance.
