Girls long weekend away this May

We are two moms in our late 30's looking for a place to go this May. No kids - no husbands!

Our main goal is to sleep late, hang out by the pool all day and go out for dinner and drinks at night. We'd like to stay at a nice hotel and don't mind spending the money to ensure this. We don't, however, like to hang out there at night - we'd much rather hang out at fun, casual, local restaurants and bars. The catch is we don't want to rent a car but would rather rely on taxis, shuttles or our feet.

Oh...and we don't want to be around bikini clad co-eds : )

Any suggestions? We are flying from Boston.

Thanks!

I hate to invite more traffic, but Naples sounds ideal for you. You'd be right at home hanging out on Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South at night, hopping from restaurant to bar to restaurant/bar. The hotel is the issue. The Ritz or LaPlaya would be great, but are a bit far from the evening activities. The Edgewater more in town on the beach is a good bet. Frankly the area is almost overrun these days with thirty and possibly forty-somethings.

I suggest New Orleans. Plenty of nice hotels with pools (we love the Hotel Providian) and tons to do at night within walking distance. Not a bad flight from Boston either.

Bermuda. Stay at Coco Reef or Fourways. Take the ferry into Hamilton for dinner at night. Safe, gorgeous, and a very easy flight from BOS.

If that doesn't work, Charleston in May is quite fabulous, but book it now as Spoleto will be on.

Whereever you go, have a blast!

San Antonio is a fun girls weekend. There are plenty of nice hotels along the Riverwalk, which is the main restaurant/bar area.

Naples.....I've been there a few time with my girlfriends and it is perfect for everything you want.

or the Breakers in Palm Beach ! total luxury, plenty of restaurants, also local ones by cab, great pools, nice spa...total relaxation but still plenty to do -

Also did one girls weekend at the Doral - pool, spa, but we rented a car that trip -

Another in South Beach - lots of great restaurants and you don't need a car

We've done several nice girls' weekends - our favorites have been San Antonio and Charleston. I think either of those would fit the bill for you.

I live in New Orleans now and the Big Easy may be perfect for you. As a native South Floridian, though, I can also agree with the South Beach and (to a lesser extent) Key West recommendations.

(Used to love Key West until the cruise ships overran the city!)

I second New Orleans. It meets all your requirements: you don't need to rent a car, there are plenty of bars and restaurants close by for evening activities, and the pools at most hotels are quite nice for lounging around in the day (and the weather is definitely warm enough in May for that). Also, saying you don't want to be around bikini clad co-eds pretty much eliminates Florida. Las Vegas is a longer flight, so New Orleans wins in that category too.

Overall, I think New Orleans fits your desires best.

I love Naples, but unless you can fly directly into Naples airport (which is very small) plan on a 45 minute/hour ride from the ft meyers airport to naples. the traffic has at times been crazy-- but i haven't been back in a few years, so can't comment on whether it's gotten better. the Ritz is fantastic-- the spa is unbelievable, but as Neopatrick says, it's a 15 minute cab ride to 5th avenue, etc.

If the trip is a short one, I'd say go to South beach, where you can fly into Miami, which is a 15 minute ride from south beach. You can stay at the ritz there which is a great location and not overrun by 20 somethings and you can walk everywhere, or if you need a cab, it'll be a short one.

Another thought is palm beach-- the ritz and the 4 seasons there are about a 10 minute cab ride from worth avenue, but are very nice (my preference is the ritz). a friend of mine and i (also 2 moms in their late 30s) went to palm beach for a girls' getaway and had a great time-- we felt very "young" there!

Thanks emcash. We, too, stayed at the Palm Beach Ritz for last year's trip. I loved the hotel during the day but couldn't wait to leave at night.

Maybe this year we'll check out Naples. We are going for 4 nights.

Check out the W Hotel in the French Quarter in New Orleans. There are two Ws in town but only one is int FQ. The pool is small and private feeling and I doubt that you'd see any kids staying there at that time of the year.

You can walk to so many good restaurants in the FQ and bars on Bourbon St. Catch a cab to shopping on Magazine St.
