First trip to San Diego California

My husband and I are going to San Diego on a business trip in late Feb. We plan on staying several extra days. What are some "must see" places to visit. Any suggestions on some nice, but moderate accomadations in a good area to see and do?

Are you going to the LaCosta for a convention? We are
too! My family lives in S.D. There are lots of hotels
on Hotel Circle Drive (parallel to Rt.8). If you can
get AAA hotel guide, you'll find many of varying
prices. A MUST SEE is Balboa Park: Shakespeare's Old
Globe Theatre; many museums; street performers;
botanical garden and flower shows; artisan's Spanish
village; AND, our favorite, the Cottages: small cottages
representing various nations around the world...on
sundays they have around 2pm a particular country's
show and all cottages have biscuits and punch/coffee/
tea for a donation! Very nice to walk around this
entire area of the park...all things are close together.
Park your car off of Park blvd. on east side of Balboa
Park. Zoo is BIG and tiring and expensive, but if
you're into zoos...Old Town is festive area with
shopping and Mexican food and other stuff..better than
tijuana...can also take trolley down to TJ if 3-rd
world experience is what you want. Enjoy!..Kathy

Good posting above; covers a lot. I also liked the science museum in Jack Murphy park, I think that is the name. Also, a trip to Coronado is well worth the time. There are a lot of boutiques and restaurants. The Coronado hotel is fabulous, and I hear the Loews Coronado Bay Resort is worth a trip. Have fun. The weather is always good in San Diego (except for El Nino!).

No one mentioned Seaworld-its the best and the Budwiser Clydesdales are there now. Another great place is Seaport Village. I love to stroll along the boardwalk, watching the skaters, kite flyers and boaters; and there are lots of neat shops and food and a carosel. There are hotels all around Seaport village with a beach view, there are more North towards Seaworld around Mission Bay. My daughters favorite is San Diego Princess Resort for about $100-150. Let me know where you think you'd like to stay and your price range and I'll get you a ph no. out of my AAA book. If you want Motel 6 type room then they won't be in my book. Harborside on the San Digo Bay has a AAA rate of $55, is 10 min from Seaworld and faces the San Diego Bay. The pictures look great, it has a pool etc, color t.v.s ph 1 800 345-9995-ask for the Seaworld Discount!! Say hi to Shamu!! Another stunner is Catamaran Resort Hotel, 5 minutes to Seaworld, has an award winning restaurant, pool, exercise room $89 in a tropical paradise setting, ph 1/800 288-0770 For a trolly tour of San Diego call 298 TOUR when in the city.

I live in San Diego and can tell you that it is a great place to visit! Seaworld, the Wild Animal Park, and the Zoo are great if you like animals. The zoo has a fairly new exhibit that features hippos that I love to see whenever I go there. I recommend seeing all of the animals at the "top" and then taking the bus for the ones that are farther back. Tijuana is an experience but don't plan on spending much time there. Drive to the last US exit and park in the pay lot. Don't leave any valuables in your car. Walk across the border and then take a $5.00 taxi to Avenida Revolucion'. (remember to barter) Balboa Park has several museums (next to the zoo), La Jolla has a nice aquarium, Downtown has Horton Plaza and Seaport Village where there are several shops and restaurants. Also, from downtown, you can take a tour of the harbor, or go on a whalewatching trip.
In Del Mar, you can take a balloon ride. Probably one of the best places to stay would be in Hotel Circle. Enjoy!
