first leg suggestions for Pittsburghn to NY trip. Want to stop at 3 hours.

We plan to leave Pittsburgh after work on Tuesday, and spend the night on the road. It waa/aoudl be the Pennsylvania Turnpike, for an over night stay and a comflortable dinner. We will go for about 3 hours, no more on that first night.

Any suggestion>? Bedford?

In the morning, we will get up and head to the city.

Why not travel on I-80 and stop in Dubois or Clearfield?
I-80 will take you to the GWB with no toll.
The largest cut and fill on any Interstate highway is between the Mill Hall exit and the Loganton exit on I-80.

You should be able to reach Bedford in about 2 hours and Carlisle in about 3, as long as you get out before rush hour. If you want to push onto to Route 15 another 10-15 minutes, there is a Wingate Inn just off the turnpike exit.

Mapquest says that you can make it from Pittsburgh to Milesburg in 3 hours using the new I-99 route past Tyrone. About 4.5 to 5 hours from Milesburg to NYC.

I was thinking about this a bit more. My times are from Squirrel Hill so if you are leaving from the center or south side, it would take longer, but I still think you could get past Bedford and at the very least to Breezewood or a bit further...if you are in a rush and need to go the entire 3 hrs and are coming from the south or west of Pgh.

We get to the north side of Pittsburgh from the Route 15 exit of the turnpike in 3 1/4 hours, so that's about 3 hrs from Pittsburgh to Carlisle.

kwren.... I did Hotline today for a room in Carlisle. I don't know why this has been so hard for me. I'm not in my right mind while planning this trip, I guess.

We will try to get past the Squirrel Hill tunnel by 4:15, but we could end up leaving later or earlier.

From my house to the Sq. Hill tunnel with no traffic is 15 minutes. I guess I could add another 15 for traffic.

google is showing 3 hours and 37 minutes from my street to Carlisle. That sucks and I wish I hadn't used Hotwire. Now I can't change to Bedford for even Breezewood.
