Go anywhere you want, do anything you want to do. Seriously, to be of any real help you have to give us a bit more information. Where are you travelling from? How long do you have? Where are you planning to go. How much is your budget? Do you want to stay in US or visit other countries? What do you like to do? What are your dislikes? Etc. Etc.

Hello coach. May I suggest you start all over again. First of all post an eyecatching title such as for example "Northern California Family of 5 looking for a trip idea". Then in your post say at least the general area you live in, what kind of trip you are interested in (big city, beach, mountains, activities and interest or whatever). The period of time that you will have for your vacation and if money is a concern the price of hotel rooms (assume you will need 2 rooms) that you can spend per night.
Just FYI. When you post on the US Board ALL post go on the US Board. If you put a location in your title then those that are doing a search and say search California will pull up threads that pertain to California. But clicking on California and starting a new thread will go to the US Board so it is not known where you will be travelling from unless you state that in your post.
Also, in case you do not know, anytime you want to find any of your threads that you started on any of your post if you click on your name which will appear next to the Welcome at the upper left hand top side of your screen you will pull up anything you have posted. Best regards.

LOVE ITALY (i did to!) thanks for your help you are exactly right i should have been more helpful, but in my haste and frustration I went too quickly. We are flying out from NC on Aug 4-10 and can go anywhere in California. I was looking for help as to where my teens might enjoy and at the same time we could have a great family experience. thanks again for your help.

Last year I took a 13 and 14 year old to San Francisco. We were busy, busy, busy. They were not bored and didn't complain! So much to do! Shopping, Biking, museums, Haight-Ashbury, even a mall with a circular escalator! Also Alcatraz was interesting. It is hard to vacation with teens sometimes but S.F. has it all!

Well, I am still not sure of your interests, but we travel with our 12 and 15 year boys so I have a couple of ideas.
With only 6 nights (really 5 full days), I would narrow it down to one area (or 2 locations tops).
The San Diego area is chock full of things for families: beaches, shopping, good food, Old Town, Sea World, Zoo or Wild Animal Park, Padres baseball, and more.
Los Angeles has beaches, movie star stuff/Hollywood, Malibu, the "OC", Disneyland, Studio Tours, The Getty art museum, La Brea Tar Pits, Farmer's Market, etc..
San Francisco is lovely and might be cooler. If you really wanted to see 2 places, it might work to spend a few days in San Francisco and then visit the Monterey/Big Sur/Pacific Grove area.
If you'd prefer the great outdoors, then Yosemite is breathtaking, but will be crowded that time of year - you really need to get on the reservations.
It will still help people give suggestions if you give more about your interests and budget. Also, once you narrow down where you want to visit, many will have more specific recommendations for activities, restaurants and the like.
Good luck and have fun!
