Ever give a travel gift for Christmas?

Probably the most memorable Christmas gift I've ever given was a trip to Ireland for my mother and her brother, a Catholic priest.
Because she had hardly traveled beyond our own neighborhood, the trip was an extraordinary experience. And the Good Lord even pitched in by holding up the rain for the entire length of her visit.

Have you ever given a travel gift for Christmas?

Have a joyous holiday,

Gerry K

When I read this title I thought about the toiletries bag my sister bought me filled with toletries. OH, THAT kind of travel gift!!!! I'm taking my daughter to Paris for "our" Christmas gifts.

This year my husband and I are giving our three kids and son-in-law a trip to Florida. Next year, we are looking into a trip to Phuket and Hong Kong. It is a way of giving some special memories to the kids, and we get to spend time with them as well, creating special family memories. Somehow it's not the same Christmas morning though, with very limited gifts to actually open!

As I said on another thread. My husband and I are giving his sister and brother in law the honor of our presence at THEIR home in Florida for Chirstmas. Trust me this is a wonderful present for them. They have been waiting for 30 years to spend a holiday with us. Of course we do see them at least three times a year, but never at Christmas. I am so excited as are they.

A weekend trip to Savannah for our daughter and son-in-law. It's someplace we all have wanted to go and like Momma always said, "Give something to somebody that you wanted for yourself" - actually we're returning the favor. Last year they gave us a free night at a hotel in New Orleans. Dang, I love those kids!!!

We give air tickets to our two daughters, son-in-law and grandson each Christmas to come see us during January & February at South Padre Island, Texas. We are from Ohio so it's a great treat for them to shed their winter coats.

We pitched in with the other siblings and spouses and bought the in-laws a week in Maui.

They hadn't been over in over 20 yrs (having 6 kids puts a bit of a crimp on the travel budget) and really enjoyed it. Suprised them, too.

ps to Cindy, Why is everybody going to NOLA but ME?!?! I'm looking for a live cam on Kauai so we can return the favor!

Have given one and will receive one tomorrow! My parents have traveled all over the world but they enjoy an annual trip to Las Vegas. I bought them a package there last year--the tables were VERY kind to them. My father won $25,000 in one day in blackjack and my mother hit a progressive slot jackpot the SAME day and won $522,000! This year, we(26 of us!) all go to Fiji!!!!

I surprised my husband one Christmas with a trip to Las Vegas. My sister and her husband had planned their Christmas trip in the summer and my husband was very jealous. He didn't know that I booked the same trip. I managed to keep the secret for 6 months. So when we went to the airport Christmas night to drop off my sister, I surprised my husband by announcing we were going too. Great trip.

P.S. - Gerry - that's a lovely story. I hope your mom and uncle had a grand trip.

To Rich: Just had to post a reply to say how much your answer made me smile! What a great holiday "happy ending" to a wonderful and thoughtful gift to your parents! And now, since they were SO lucky, you get to have a terrific family get-together (all 26 of you)in FIJI on them!! Have a wonderful time and a very Merry Christmas!

Not for Christmas but I gave my mom a trip to Paris last year for her 61st birthday. It was a fantastic time for both of us!!

And a couple of years ago my best friend and I gave ourselves each a Caribbean cruise for Christmas!!
