Eating in Vegas

I'm going to Las Vegas for the first time next week. I've heard about the variety of inexpensive dining options on the strip. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the better values available? And any other tips for first time visitors would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try the ribs at Westward H0-cheap, but good. Try the website, las-vegas-advisor.com/lva

I did a lot of research going back several months in this site before we went in Dec and the Rio won hands down for the best buffet in town. We went and it was packed. But that was Christmas. So we went upstairs and had Mexican dinner - it was fantastic. Very good food, service and ambiance. Candles and live musicians. We stayed at the MGm and tried their buffet and mexican rest and it was not nearly as good. There is another place I remember from years ago that makes "silver dollar size pancakes" and it may have a name that is similar. It was great too. We've stayed at the Mirage and the Ex Calibur, both nice. The Excalibur has a western style steak house inside w/ live country western music/dancing while you eat. We loved that and the cute waiters! Don't forget to visit Casesar's Palace for the great shopping!

It all depends on where you stay. If you stay downtown, we always really enjoy the Horseshoe. Both the Steakhouse and the coffee shop are great. Also, the coffee shop at the Golden Nuggett is really good. Our eating experiences at the Fremont have been pretty awful. Although, I have heard that their seafood buffett is good. If you are staying on the strip, we really enjoyed the Beef Baron at the Flamingo. Off the strip, the Italian restaurants at any of the "Station" casinos are EXCELLANT; especially at the Texas. For good Mexican food go to Gardunos the Fiesta Casino.

My very best advise to you is read the magazines that will be in your room they usually list all the resturants by type and buffets. The buffets are the best deal, I really enjoy Bally's Big Kitchen Buffet, and the Mirage buffet, both excellent. Most of the major Casino on the strip have great food.
Make sure you see the outside attractions on the strip these are all free, and make sure you go to the Forum Shops at Ceasars there is the talking fountain and sinking of Atlantis, The car show at the Imperial Palace (Make sure you get free admittance)
We keep going back to LV because it is just such good fun!! Go to your newsgroups Alt.gambling.Las-vegas or go to http://www.lasvegas24hours.com/

Enjoy your trip

My husband and I were in LV last week and had dinner at The Fog City Diner. It was outstanding! It isn't on the strip, but it's not too far. Also, I've heard rave reviews about another restaurant that's half a block from the diner. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but the executive chef is Patrick Beck. I've eaten at several restaurants when he was overseer and it was always wonderful.

MY husband and I were IN LV 3 times last year. The restaurant we got turned onto by a NY taxi driver was "Hugo' cellar in the "Four Queens" hotel. We not only had the best meal in LV 3 months later we went back and got engaged!
We also went to "MORTON,S of Chicago and found it too expensive and over the top in servings.[The smallest steak was a 16 oz porterhouse]l

Lots of great buffets along the Strip and elsewhere...Carnival World at the Rio is really excellent, the best food I've had, but it's a bit pricier than most of the other buffets. I'd say it's worth it once, though. As far as lower-priced buffets we really like the Warehouse Buffet at the Stardust. It's not as well-known as some of the others but we find the selection of food is great, everything is fresh and tasty, and the service is friendly and efficient. Also it usually isn't as crowded as some of the others. So if you make it to that part of the Strip, I'd definitely recommend the Stardust's buffet.
