Dress code in Disney World?

Is there a recommended dress code for Disney World (Magic Kingdom, Epcot) restaurants for dinner? What are recommendations?

Plaid shorts, sneakers, Ban-Lon shirt.

Or, in a word, no.

What's a Ban-Lon? Is that also referred to as a wife beater t-shirt?

Never heard it called a "wife-beater T-shirt," but that sounds good.

Ban-Lon is a stretchy polyester that once was in favor with Mafia types and rednecks (go figure). Its main attraction is the ability to stretch right along with a growing stomach.

I was going to make a comment like black dress and tux, but then thought about your question further.

Inside the parks themselves, there is no dress code. In the MK, people are dressed for the day, and don't normally change.

In Epcot, here is a small story (as I heard during a co-branded business learning session): After Epcot opened, a pattern developed where people would come to Epcot to eat dinner, as they have some 4 & 5 star restaurants. "Guests" would go the the Kingdom (or wherever) during the day, return to their hotels and freshen up and come to Epcot for dinner - then leave Epcot immediately after eating. I have noticed that some of these "guests" are dressed better, since they freshened up.

[The reason they created the fireworks was to stop people from leaving Epcot after eating - thus increasing time spent ( & $$) in the park]

If you are talking about some of the restaurants in the hotels, that is another thing. Yes, some do have dress codes.

From what I remember seeing on my last trip to Disney World, shoes and shirts were the only requirements..Think of it as home and you were going to be seen by your neighbors...what would you wear?
"Wife beaters" used to be called "guinea tees"...and that was offensive-so wife beater is better?

good sneakers and sunscreen are the main requirements. otherwise assume you're still going to get tan lines, will sweat. lose comfortable clothes, light colors. I think they're selling Ban-lon at the Gap and Old Navy now...at night you'll either still be in same outfit or if you shower and change dress casual nice.

I agree with the consensus. Shorts and t-shirts are perfectly fine. keep in mind that some people (ususally foreigners) have taken to wearing such things as very tight spandex bike shorts and exercise bras or the like. If this is acceptable you have to imagine anything would. I would not however go spouting profanity on your shirt as then you might be asked to leave (or not ever be let into the park). I was standing around the lagoon for the fireworks one night and a young man got into a heated argument with a middle aged woman who was pushing a wheelchair, and started using extremely profane language. Someone called security and he was removed. Since we have annual passes to Disney World we often come later in the day to just enjoy some of the resturants and fireworks shows. I would suggest at Epcot: Le Cellier for a nice sit down dinner, and the Land food court for lunch since you can suit anyones tastes and they have yummy sandwiches. At the Magic Kingdom: The resturant on top of Cinderella's castle. Ask for a window seat. At MGM: the Brown Derby is nice, although nothing compared to its namesake. At Animal Kingdom: you are rather pressed to find good dinning but the Rainforest Cafe (it's a chain) has a great atmosphere for children. At all of these make reservations at guest relations ahead of time. If you wait too long you could end up with either 4:30 or 8:20 as the only open times. If however you get a time that isn't exactly what you want, go to the restaurant early. They may be able to seat you.

O.K., you've got a regular t-shirt, and you've got a 'v-neck' t-shirt, right? Then there's a third type - are they called 'a-shirts'? The thin ones with no sleeves that you wear under a dress shirt so they can't see you sweat. THOSE are wife beater shirts, aren't they?

I told you already!!!
they used to be called guinea tees..the ones with sort of straps...Brando wore one in Streetcar....the Italians didn't like that name so they started calling them "wife-beaters"--that is supposed to be better than guinea? GO figure

From what I could see, tank tops, tube socks, cut-offs and spandex (particularly favored by overweight women), seemed to be all the rage at Disneyworld.

The only clothes you have to wear at Disney restaurants are ones that have LOTS of money in their pockets

Polly-that is funny...as if there were dress codes for amusement parks, most of us are just happy that people wear clothes! and as for "dining" in the Magic Kingdom, what a hoot! They are lucky most "diners" use their silverware...now now, don't get testy - I mean because the food is hot dogs and french fries Isn't the whole idea of going to a theme park for a family vacation with the kids -so that you don't have to think about getting the kids and yourselves dressed for meals?
