Disneyland Hotel for teenagers
My husband and I are going to be taking our 17 year old son and his friend to disneyland this summer. We are looking for a hotel at or near Disneyland that is more suited to teenagers. We are also interested in a fun pool (waterside?) We don't want to spend more than $250 a night.

We stayed at the Howard Johnsons and it was pretty nice (nice landscaping, refrigerator in room, etc)for such a reasonably priced hotel. Walking distance from the park - so the teenagers can have some independence. Pool was nothing special for teenagers but they do have a pretty nice water play area for younger kids.

There is a pretty large water slide at the Paradise Pier Hotel - one of the DL properties - I have not really heard of or seen a slide or too fancy of pool for a teen in the area. You might be able to get the room for about 250.00 there - not sure -- it was less when we stayed but it was in April not summer. The HJ gets consistent reviews - I go to school right by dland and drive by the HJ all the time.
I have stayed at the fairfield Inn right there as well - it was just "okay" - the pool was nothing to write home about and the noise level was high.
There is a decent place "Mimi's" to eat if you get tired of the park food - it is decent prices and good - they have great breakfasts.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're considering the Paradise Pier Hotel, but don't know if I'm focusing too much on the pool. I'd hate to spend all the extra to stay at PPH and then have them not use the pool, when we could pay significantly less and have breakfast included as well.

I think perhaps you are focusing on it too much Colleen - I have four children, 22, 20, 16 and 13. My girls (16 and 13) love D-land. I did stay @ the Paradise Pier with dd for her b-day. One nice thing about the rooms is there is a pretty big couch or daybed if I remember correctly in the room plus the two beds - so that would be nice for your family.
I would spend less on the hotel but make sure it has a pool to cool off in -- but really the focus will be on the parks.
