D.C. TRIP

MY FAMILY AND I HAVE A TRIP PLANNED TO DC IN MID OCT. MY KIDS ARE CONCERNED THAT MAYBE THIS IS NOT A GOOD TIME FOR A VACATION TO WASHINGTON, THEY ARE 10 AND 15. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK ON WHATS CLOSED,SECURITY ISSUES,AND CHANGES WE SHOULD ANTICIPATE IN DC.

THANKS

Other than a few streets around the White House and National Airport, of course, I am not aware of "closings." I believe the Capitol and White House tours were stopped for awhile; don't know if they have resumed. But they weren't something my children when teenagers would have enjoyed. I work in downtown and life seems pretty much back to normal except for the tornado that blew through yesterday.

I am not in D.C., but my husband just returned. All that I know of that is losed is the airport Reagan National. There is much tighter security everywhere so allow extra time at the sights, but don't stay home. People are grieving for those that they lost but life goes on in a major city like D.. And unlike NY, the damage amd devastaion are not rampant through a portion of the city but limited only to the Pentagon. Now is actually a good tiem to go to get good hotel rates.

Check out Washington's tourist site at http://www.washington.org/

White House Tours are cancelled. I'd assume the Pentagon, too, but this site has up-to-date info. Also, check out last weekend's travel section in the Washington Post, www.wahingtonpost.com

Have safe and good trip!

Capitol tours have resumed, but White House tours have not.

DC is open for tourists business. What is all this debate about ... the welcome wagon is ready for you. Welcome to DC. And please stop posting that same tired question. Where do you think DC is ... in Gatlinburg on vacation? Ciao

I live in DC and was down on the mall (Smithsonian) this weekend. There were plenty of people out and some tourists. Actually, this might be a great time to come because there is less traffic, less tourists, etc.

I was not the least bit frightened being there and the weather has been amazing here all summer. Hopefully that will continue.
