California/Yosemite
WE WILL BE GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO AND YOSEMITE NEXT SUMMER. 2 GRANDPARENTS(72 AND 70), 3 ADULT CHILDREN IN THEIR FORTIES, 5 GRANDKIDS 11-16 YRS. ALL IN GOOD HEALTH. WE DID A SIMILAR TRIP TO BRYCE, ZION, LAKE POWELL AND THE GRAND CANYON FROM LAS VEGAS LAST YEAR AND LOVED IT.
WOULD BE FLYING INTO SAN FRAN AND WOULD LIKE TO SPEND 4 DAYS THERE, THEN GO TO YOSEMITE FOR 4 DAYS, RETURNING TO SF TO LEAVE. WHAT DO I HAVE TIME FOR AND WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?( WOULD LIKE TO DO 2 DAY TRIPS FROM SF AND SPEND 2 DAYS IN SF.) THANKS.

Ten people, 11-72. Why did you choose San Francisco & Yosemite? You must have had some idea about what might entertain everyone. Start by telling us what you believe those might be. You know you better than we do.

In SF we would like to see the usual - Alcatraz, Lombardi street,Fisherman's wharf, etc. Outside SF the Muir Woods, the Sequoias, Sausilito.
In Yosemite, mostly hiking, horseback riding, staying in both parts of Yosemite, etc.

Make your reservations for Yosemite now and build the rest of your trip around it. Stay in the park, IN Yosemite Valley for the best location. If you don't get in, try looking at the town of El Portal and the Yosemite View Lodge.

I suggest staying in SF for the 4 days, or is it 4 nights, making it 3 days? You have an unwieldy number of people which slows you down considerably and there's loads to do right in the City. Also I suggest, with all the interests that variety of people represents, don't worry about being joined at the hip for those days. Head off in smaller groups at least part of the time so everyone gets a dose of exactly what they want.
You need a couple of guide books, maybe 3 or 4, and use the time until then for everyone to do some reading up on how they'd best like to spend those days. We can make suggestions until we're blue in the face and not get it right for so many. Get books.
You don't need day trips. Dial it down, half in the wonderful City, half in the glory that's Yosemite NP. You'll still leave wishing you'd had far more time for both.
