Burlington VT - Trip Ideas
My wife and I are thinking about a 7-day trip to Burlington VT. We're not the super outdoor type (eg. camping, hiking, canoeing) but we like nature, boat trips, scenic locations, history, exploring around, etc. Any suggestions on what to do in and around Burlington?

We went to VT for about a week. We're not the outdoor type either.
You can take boat trips, just ask around. The VT Teddy Bear factory is an OK place to visit for an hour or two.
You can also drive up to South Hero & North Hero island on Lake Champlane, great scenery.

With 7 days you might want to do some driving around. The Shelburne Museum south of Burlington can take one or two days if you look at everything. From Burlington you can take the car ferry across Lake Champlain and visit Ausable Chasm (walk thru a gorge with simple boat ride at the end). I agree the drive thru the Champlain Islands is a lovely drive. Not much to see except beautiful scenery. If you drive to the top of Champlain and head south, you can be back in Burlington by lunch. To the east, Boyden Valley Winery is kind of out of the way but a nice wine tasting. You could make a loop that would include Stowe. Long day but could be fun. There's a brewery tour you can take. Check to see if there are any fairs or events going on. Yankee Magazine has some events listed on their website. Church Street is fun to shop and sometimes there's an event going on right there. (The street is closed to pedestrians and seems to be a major place to hang out.)

I live outside Burlington. Today's Burlington Free Press Weekend section has quite an extensive section on boating in Burlington.

I also give the Shelburne Museum a big thumbs up. I had never been there before last year and I want to go back.
I'd reccomend maybe spending one night at Franconia State Park in New hampshire to see the white mountains.
It's a couple hours away. Be sure to see the Flume-easy walk and beautiful

I flew to Burlington in August to join my husband who was on business, and 2 days later we drove back.
I really enjoyed walking around the Retail area. It's past the university, very close to the water.
We were not there long, but there is an excellent seafood restaurant on the water (looks like a 2-story house).
If you like microbrew beer, take a tour of the Magic Hat Brewery. very good stuff.
Skip the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory if you don't have kids with you! I was in traffic on this little highway for over an hour to get there, and it was just like Build a Bear.
Mmmmm . . . Ben and Jerry's . . ..
