We are thinking of a family beach vacation in August and are wondering if Block Island is too sedate for a trip with our 13 and 15 year old boys. We all want to bike and enjoy beaches. We all love Nantucket but prices are over the top. My questions are:
1. Will Block Island be a disappointmnet after Nantucket?
2. How many days on Block Island do you suuggest?
3. Is there enough to do on Block Island if it rains and is Newport a day trip option if it does rain?
Thanks very much for your input,
Barbara

Well you can rent bikes on Block Island and drive on the roads There is also a nice beach. Other than that, I'm not sure there's much more to do. Depends on your kids. When I was 13, a good Cape vacation for me was driving go carts on the Commercial strip of Yarmouth.
