I assume everyone knows about the fun things like Pike Place Market, the Waterfront, and Pioneer Square historic district here in Seattle.

So here my list of a few local landmarks, events, and activities going on this summer that likely won't make the usual tourist itinerary but you might enjoy:

www.zoo.org is the Woodland Park Zoo website plus under Events you will find a schedule for "Zoo Tunes" an outdoor live music concert series mid-June to mid-August

www.bumbershoot.org the arts festival over Labor Day weekend

www.greenstage.org for free (pass-the-hat donations) Shakespeare in the Park mid-July to mid-August

Gasworks Park, Ballard Locks, Burke Gilman trail are off the top of my head.

The zoo is great. Although I am still trying to get rid of the memory of chaperoning a kindergarten class there years ago, lol!

I like taking visitors for long walks in Seattle's neighborhood parks, such as Discovery Park in Magnolia, Seward Park and Lincoln Park--great views and
you get a feel for the neighborhoods.

I really enjoy the Seattle Marathon because it lets you experience much of the variety of the city, such as Seward Park.

I always recommend the boat trip out to Blake Island for the salmon dinner and Indian dance demonstration...great harbor tour is part of the trip.

Mms, I'm doing the Vancouver half marathon this weekend in part because the course (much of which is through Stanley Park) is so nice. I just hope the weather cooperates--last time I did it, it was steady rain the whole time. But generally the weather for the Vancouver marathon is better than for the Seattle marathon in late November (although I've done that half marathon in the cold and rain several times, LOL--makes it a little hard to appreciate the course though)!

NWWanderer--I have done the Seattle full marathon twice and the half twice. I am one of those wierd people who prefers the bad weather and actually gets better time when it is rainy and windy. Maybe it is the motivation to just get it over with? LOL! Or the motivation for the mocha at the finish line that DH knows to have ready

And you're right about the cold weather--my best time on a half was here in Seattle when it was COLD, windy and rainy. Plus it's easier to get to chatting with my race companion if it's nice out so we tend to go slower, LOL.

This list sure makes me homesick.

I'll throw in my two cents: Discovery Park/Magnolia area for a very pleasant walk, then down to Fishermen's Term. for chowder at Chinooks. Lincoln Park walk along the bluff or down along the water, up the hill to Endolyne Joe's for a bite.

Where are the former Pier/Lake Union concerts being held this year? Or are they on at all?

Nope, the Summer Nights series is not happening at all this year. I just looked on One Reel's website and there's no info about the status.
