"Ship of Fools" on the Upper East Side (1590 2nd Ave, btw 82nd & 83rd streets, 212-570-2651)
It's a great place to watch your out-of-town basketball, football or hockey games. A special place on autumn Staurdays when all the NYC alumni clubs meet and watch their various schools' games from all over the country.
Warning: this is a traditional sports bar & grill -- not a theme restaurint, if that's what you're looking for.

Also on the UES, "Back Page" on Third Avenue around 83rd Street.
Also "Blondie's" with a UES and UWS location.
Finally, "Park Avenue Country Club" is very popular and huge. It's on Park Avenue South around 27th St.
Check 'em out at www.sheckys.com

Go travel...Tell me more about ESPNzone in TS...I dislike the one here in ATL because you 1-Often cannot get a seat in the viewing area, esp for big games,2-One stadium style tv screen which is great, but only if YOUR game is on,otherwise, you are forced to watch the smaller tv's.And could someone tell me more about the Sporting Club in Tribeca? Thanks

A sports bar goes posh--or at least gives it a try.
The Scene
The big quandary: your girlfriend or the game? 99 Hudson Street (formerly The Sporting Club) hopes to accommodate both. The 45 TVs (6 of them big screen) and predominance of men in baseball caps let you know this is a sports bar. Yet there are chic-approved touches like velvet booths, a martini menu and vegetarian dishes. Attempts to class up the joint are only partially successful; service is tortoise-slow and conversation falls by the wayside in the face of the TV department-like atmosphere.
The Draw
There are three to four games playing on any given night, as well as a nice selection of beers on tap and one-notch-above-pub-grub entrees. Go for tasty smoked chicken quesadillas or appealingly spiced Buffalo Style Chicken Sandwich on a savory onion bun. Juicy burgers are made of top sirloin, and salad can be substituted for fries. A glance at the high ceilings reveals a skybox-like private room--just the thing for your next Super Bowl party.
