The day we're leaving Cooke City, we'll enter Yellowstone again, head over Dunraven Pass, out east entrance and spend 1 night in Cody. The next morning we'll head to Spearfish, SD for 1 night before heading to Custer, SD for 2 nights. We are torn about which route to take through the Bighorn Mountains - hwy 14a,14 or 16 Ten Sleep/Cloud Peak. I had seen some photos of hwy 16 thru Ten Sleep/Cloud Peak and it looked so scenic. But most people seem to be suggesting 14a or 14. So - which one of the 3 scenic byways? All your replies much appreciated.
Best scenic route thru Bighorns from Cody to Spearfish via Devils Tower

Sorry, with regards to weather, I should have added that this will be at the beginning of the first week of September 2012. Thanks.
When I lived near Billings my son and I went Billongs to Cody via I-90 to Dayton and then 14A. A few years later, DW and I want Cody to Mt. Rushmore via 14 and then 14/16 to Gillette and picking up I-90 into Spearfish. I prefer 14 to 14A. Have not diven 16, but it looks like a nice drive. It might snow on you over the mountains, but you should have good weather still.

Thanks for your reply. It's looking like we'll be taking hwy 14. We love the mountain scenery in Wyoming and Montana!
