best places to visit in winter through WV to North Carolina

Hello everybody, we are a family of 7, 5 adukts and two kids (2 and 5) we are planning to travel from WV (snowshoe) to North Carolina, we already have booked three nights at snowshoe, but we can decide where else to go. We want to visit some cities along the way to Raleigh NC, and we want to spend new years in a really nice city, we will b departing back home from Raleigh in January 2nd. Do you have any ideas? we are going tp stay four days in snowshoe so we are looking for other atractions beside snow after that. Maybe some vineyard, beautiful landscapes, beautiful roads, things to do with kids?
W are staying from dec 23 to dec 26 in Snowshoe, so we have from dec 26th to january 2nd (6days) to travel along North Carolina.
Ill appreciate any help!!! I need to buy my airplane tickets from ft Lauderdale and I havent decide the departing point

You'd have several nice options. I think Winston Salem would be a great stop. Old Salem will be decorated for Christmas and the tours there are very interesting. WS has some great food/restaurants also.
There is Asheville also. Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham has a lot to do and see.
I take it you are flying into Raleigh and going to Snowshoe? You might look into fares to Charlotte or Greensboro also for the cheapest. On a holiday schedule, hard to know what they will be.

The tickets for the season are EYE wateringly expensive!! The motet singers from our church were invited to perform for the opening candlelight tour and due to a mixup on the tickets provided, our director had to buy them (and be reimbursed). Holy moly!! $100? I think!!
Do think about Winston Salem. Old Salem is truly lovely and particularly at Christmas. The Moravian music and love feasts are very special.

Another vote for Winston Salem to take in the Moravian music and decorations. I think Fodorite CMCFong is a Moravian from that area and can give you more detailed advice.

Something else you might enjoy in the central area of NC is Seagrove and its potteries. There are well over 100 potteries in the area. After Christmas their merchandise may be pretty picked over, but there is a museum and the pottery is wonderful. It is sort of south of Ashboro. There IS the zoo in Ashboro also.
Another neat little town toward Raleigh is Hillsborough and there is a Vietri outlet there. but the "downtown" area is a lovely historic district with cute shops and restaurants.

If you have time to wander, wander to Valle Crucis and stop at the original Mast General Store -

The surrounding area is very nice - Boone, Banner Elk and Valle Crucis is a gorgeous valley.

Are you interested in riding horses?
