I would find out exactly where in Hanalei it is located. You want to be Makai (oceanside) of the highway for sure.
People do it all the time, but I personally would not rent a vacation rental that shared it's lot or space with another rental unit. If the owner occupied the other unit/home, then yes, but another rental, no. Hope this helps.

Bill, I am curious about your preference for owners vs renters in the adjacent units. Is it because they would be rowdier?
I have rented "adjacent unit" before, and sometimes you luck out and the others are vacant - whereas if there's an owner, well there's usually a slim chance you'll be alone. Also, I feel like with the owner downstairs/next door, I don't dare turn up the stereo, or get a little crazy. Feel like I'm being watched...not that anyone would want to do that hee hee not much to see.
PS to Monilonilei: I suggest you call the toll free number and ask where the unit is located, as Bill points out. Before you get your hopes up.

Monilonilei:
Aunty Lydia's cottage is located in Hanalei town -- strolling distance to beach, easy walk into town. The Kobayashi family has a great reputation here for maintaining their properties in very good condition at all times.
