YK...

Thanks for topping this. I had not idea and I bank at Bank of America...shows how oblivious I can be! I'll be in San Francisco over July 4th weekend and had planned on going to the de Young...now I can get free admission!
LCI - are you going to the King Tut? The BoA promo only offers free general admission, so you'll have to pay for any special exhibition surcharges. And IF you are really going to see King Tut, you might want to book advance tickets... I have a feeling it'll be packed, and even more so for July 4th weekend.
yk - Great info - thanks for posting this. I already have TUT tix (say that 6x fast) for September - can't wait!
YK...

Yes, I did check out the museum and the Tut exhibit website and saw the separate admission fee for the Tut exhibit. I had the same thought that I probably need to purchase the Tut tix in advance since I was planning to go that holiday weekend. That's for looking out for me!
LCI - obviously, if you buy your King Tut tix in advance, you have to pay for the entire ticket: $32.50. If you wait until you get there and use the BoA promo, you should be able to only pay $22.50 for the exhibition, as general admission is $10 which is waived.
It depends on how badly you want to see King Tut. If you decide it's not worth the expense, you can just go to deYoung and get in for free to see the permanent exhibits. Even though King Tut has timed entry, I imagine it'll be wall-to-wall people.
[I was there last Labor day weekend and we went to the Chihuly exhibit. It was very crowded even with the timed entry.]
I paid $22 per ticket which includes general admission through an email promotion I had received. I also ordered (for an additional fee) the audio guides. My admission is for 9 am which I think will be a lot less crowded than later in the day as people linger in the exhibit and accumulate. From my experience with crowded, timed entrances, the earlier you go, the better.
Centralparkgirl...

Good tip about the early entrance time!

TOPPING for this weekend, August 1-2, 2009
I apologize for forgetting to top this thread in the last few months.
Topping now for this weekend, December 5th & 6th, 2009
With a friend I'm going to see the Amish Quilts at the San Francisco DeYoung. Too bad they cancel "cardholder and friend" admission, it's only one person. We'll share the expenses, she doesn't have a BofA card.
CPG, my kids said the same about Tut exhibit: the earlier you go, the better.
Dayenu - that's my philosophy for everything like that because if you go later, there will be all the 'early' people who linger. Museums just get more and more crowded as the day goes on. When I go to the Orchid show at the Botanic Gardens in February, I go when they open - same idea. Enjoy the quilts!

Free museum admission is this weekend, January 2-3, 2010
P.S. Probably a good time to stockpile discounted Holiday cards & gifts for 2010 at museum stores.
We went to Amish Quilts, I think I posted a review somewhere, but I can repeat: what an eye-opener! We didn't expect the array of colors, so bright! Loved the exhibit!
It's at DeYoung in San Francisco.
Ooops! A tad late this month: it's free weekend this weekend, Feb 6-7, 2010!

Free admission is this weekend, March 6-7, 2010.

CPG, no, it has to be a card per person.
