Austrian boyfriend - Need a special Birthday Surprise!

I've looked around at some different restaurants in the Boston area, however I am stumped on where to bring my boyfriend for a special date/weekend. He will be turning 30 on May 19th. He is very picky as to the style of service and dining atmosphere not being too corporate or noisy.

Any Ideas?

One of my best Boston meals was at Radius.

I would suggest Top of the Hub or cocktails and dessert. The view at night is amazing. Personally, I enjoy the North End dining, but your boyfriend may find some restaurants are too noisy and small.

Are you looking for a fancy tasting menu type place, featuring top-drawer level service with money no object here? If so, I'd suggest in descending order L'Espalier, Clio, or No. 9 Park. Dress nicely and bring a healthy credit card.

Radius is another option, though I'm personally partial to the other three spots I mentioned. It's certainly good, though, as are Mistral and (in Cambridge) Rialto or Harvest. Haven't tried Menton, though like No. 9 Park, it's a Barbara Lynch spot.

My experience at Top of the Hub is that it's a place where the view notably outstrips the food and service. Cocktails and dessert is about as far as I'd trust it, if at all.
