Aspen - with an 18 month old and no husband

How difficult would it be to get to aspen with my daughter and no other help? I was invited to stay with friends for 4 days but it seems there are no direct flights and the travel time from new york would be 4 hours of airtime so 2 days are just travel days. Worth it?

Not to me. You have four days total and two are travel?

Also, the jet lag for me from West to East is so bad it has to be worth my while.

Again, just my opinion.

It's only a two hour time difference, so the jet lag wouldn't be an issue for me. How much do you want to see your friends? With the shuttles (ask for a car seat) the transfer to Aspen isn't that bad. I guess for me 2 days in Aspen are better than no days. Do you travel with your daughter well? How is she on flights?

How difficult it would be to do that alone is a question only you can answer.

Myself, 18 months is a bit too young to carry across country for that time. With a four year old, maybe.

Leave the baby home with your husband and go have fun alone;-)

I have never been on a plane before so I really don't know how well she will travel. I was thinking of bringing a nanny but is it enough time?

Rather than bringing a Nanny, leave the child home w/the Nanny. Certainly enough time. My wife nor I would have any trouble making this trip w/either of our small ones however (3 1/2 & 8 months). Shouldn't be a problem.

There is no way that you can foresee how a toddler that age will react to the change in schedule, bed, strangers, different food, etc. You could have a poor baby that will cry the entire time or be a perfect angel. I, personally, would not take the chance. It's a tricky age. I would either skip the trip or leave her at home.

Another thing to consider is a carseat. Will you take your own or make arrangements for one once you land? That's a lot to carry around if you have to take your own!

One child would be a breeze! I used to travel with 3 kids - 3 yr and under - by myself, cross country, with a change of planes.
