Are there any car rental agencies in Doraville, GA?
We are going to a winery in Dahlonega, GA. To avoid the horrible traffic around Atlanta we thought about taking MARTA to Doravile and renting a car from there. Doraville doesn't seem to be a booming metropolis so I'm having problems finding an agency near the MARTA station. Would somebody have some information about getting from Doraville to Dahlonega that can help us out? Thanks in advance.

Going to work on it in June - yeah I know, I wasn't really wanting to go that far into summer but our oldest daughter is getting married in Atlanta (re: winery - get it, huh, get it?) so we're going from here to NOLA then to ATL and home. I was able to get the multi-segment flights for only $215.00 so it must have been meant to be!
Speaking of the winery, the last time we were in Georgia the kids had us try a wine made there that was a kind of sweet red. REALLY good! Every time I tell Bill I want to see about sending a case home he laughs and says that it'll never make it back to Ohio. No faith in me at all!
How are you and the Mrs. doing?

I see a couple of Enterprises not too far off Doraville. More importantly, they will pick you up/drop you off, which makes it much easier. Unless you're really in rush hour, traffic isn't that bad and most of the time, it moves especially if you're in an HOV lane through downtown. And I will say that if I get stuck, it's usually on 400 which is the way to Dahlonega.

fliegel - Thank you so much! I will check out Enterprise. I had forgotten about their pick up/drop off option which would be a huge help to us. Unfortunately our flight is at 9:25 AM so I'm thinking we would be right in the middle of lots of people with Monday morning blahs on their minds. We are kinda considering coming back to Atlanta on Sunday night before the flight and staying at an airport hotel - just to be safe and maybe remove lots of stress. Again, thanks!

I would definitely stay at the airport Sunday night. Also, when you're in Dahlonega, right on the other side of I-85 at Hwy. 53 (which you'll cross going up & down 400) is Chateau Elan, which has a winery, tours, resort, etc.

We're definitely heading more towards the airport on Sunday night. We're going for our daughter's wedding at Wolf Mountain and they have decided to have the ceremony on Sunday night with lots of "stuff" to do for the whole weekend before, so I don't mind skipping out fairly early when the ceremony and sniffling is over. Thanks for the help, folks.

It would make more sense to go up 400 rather than Doraville. If you take it to the end of the line --North Springs -- I know Enterprise will pick you up there -- look for Enterprise in Roswell. My sister in law does that every time she comes to visit. And Dahlonega is straight up 400 so you will be less than an hour to there.

mpkp: Oh wow - thank you so much!! I don't know why Doraville was stuck in my mind without even considering the other branch. I really appreciate you literally sending us in the right direction!

ccolor, where are you staying in Atlanta? What day of the week do you plan to go to Dahlonega? If on a weekend I wouldn't be concerned with traffic. If during the week...go after morning rush hour and back after evening rush hour.
The really sweet wine was probably muscadine.
Hope you find you some gold over in them thar hills!

We are staying at a Days Inn in Dahlonega (at Hwy 60 & Hwy 52) and will be flying in on a Saturday afternoon at 2 PM leaving Monday morning at 9:30 AM. I agree with your thoughts about Saturday, but am having nightmares thinking of Monday!
However, gold might make it worthwhile!!

Come back on Sunday night and stay at an airport hotel! You can usually get a great priceline rate. A couple of years ago on our way to Hawaii, we booked a priceline room at the Airport Hilton and they had overbooked and walked us to The Doubletree. It was great...we ended up with a free room and breakfast and no parking fee!
You gonna eat at The Smith House?

Well, North Springs would be the right MARTA station but if you are flying in on Saturday afternoon you won't have horrible traffic. I'd get a rental car at the airport and just head north. It will be an easy drive on a Saturday. Taking MARTA and then finding a rental care in the area would be far more complicated.
