Anniversary weekend away from NYC

We are in our late 30s and will be celebrating our anniversary early september.

Looking for a weekend away from NYC -

1) EXCELLENT hotel - comfy beds! great service! excellent food! possible spa....
2) nice choice of restaurants nearby
3) some nightlife
4) driving distance from NYC or short flight

no budget... first weekend away from kids, 10 year anniversary, we're doing it right

Try Long Beach Island. Great place, beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants. Can't recommend it enough. Take a look at www.lbisource.com and flip through some of the options there to get a feel for what's available.

I'd hardly call the Otesaga an excellent hotel. Nice view of Lake Otsego, crotchety service, mediocre food. Cooperstown itself is a nice town, but it is overrun on summer weekends by baseball fans with lots of kids. There is no nightlife there to speak of. The restaurant class of the area, Church and Main in nearby Canajoharie, recently closed. Annually, we attend Glimmerglass Opera, about eight miles or so up the lake, for a long weekend, but we avoid Cooperstown like the plague.

Congratulations!

The Mohonk Mountain House is supposed to be amazing:

Also, what about a short flight to somewhere like Montreal? I think that would definitely satisfy your criteria!
