Anchor In - Hyannis - feedback
Hello!
I have reservations for a week at the end of June at the Anchor In - in Hyannis. I'm traveling with my 15 year old son and plan to make day trips down the Cape, Nantucket, Provincetown, etc. So far, a ferry ride to Nantucket and a whale watching boat ride are on the agenda. Any suggestions for a mom and 15 year old are appreciated! Is this a good base location for this trip? Really want to have some type of water view and be accessible to ferries, restaurants, etc.

You are taking a 15 year old boy???? To Hyannis???? I've lived here for almost 30 years, raised two great kids and still wonder what you can do on a rainy day with any age kids. Your choice of the Anchor Inn is a good one as it sits on the Hyannis Inner Harbor. From that point you can almost touch any of the ferries to Nantucket, however, you will have to drive to Falmouth or Woods Hole to get the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. You have not mentioned if you will be doing the naturalist variety of vacation, ie. kayaking, cycling, or just exploring our very beautiful inlets and waterways. I would suggest you rent a kayak or take a tour with your son from the Museum of Natural History. As for a teenage boy, well Provincetown will give him plenty to see and talk about with his friends for years. It's a gay community, colorful, busy, happy, artie and worth the hour plus drive from Hyannis. Also you could whale watch from Provincetown or closer to Hyannis. The end of June is perfect weather and our roses are in full bloom. If he gets bored, Boston is 1.5 hr drive from the Cape. Have a good time.

You have made an excellent choice for your accommodations in the Anchor in. It provides exactly what you want in terms of water views, central base location, and accessability to ferries, restaurants and sights.
I have no idea why Booger is trying to mislead you, but your location provides easy access to Martha's Vineyard as well as Nantucket ferries.
There are plenty of things you can do with your son on a rainy day including the CC Mall, movies, museums etc. If he gets tired of being with mom on a beach day, drop him off at nearby Craigville Beach, a hangout for teenagers.
Try to make that Provincetown day trip, you will have a fun day.

Sorry, I was mistaken about the ferry to M.V. You can take the Hy-Line to M.V. in the summer, however the Steamship Authority only runs to Nantucket. Perhaps Gene didn't notice I also agreed your choice for the Anchor Inn was a good one. If you consider going to the mall or shopping something your son will like on his vacation...go for it. I think the more physically involved ( kayaking, etc) he's kept the happier. I also agree Craigville Beach is best for his age. Enjoy

We've stayed at the Anchor In several times over the years, including last August. Very nice place, depending upon what type of room you're getting. The cheaper rooms do not have a water view (our friend was in one without a window at all). It's very accessible to restaurants by foot as long as you'll walk 5-10 blocks. The pool area does look out to the water so you can get a water view from there depending upon the weather. You can also walk to the two ferries in town, which is a great plus because traffic can get hectic. If you or your son like mussels, go to the Black Cat and get their mussels appetizer. I made several meals of that with a salad.
