Trying to come up with an itinerary for Alaska travel for 2011 and would like imput on the following. If we do a 4 hr cruise thru the Icy Straits and an all day cruise into Glacier Bay NP, would the all day cruise into Tracy Arm Fjords be an overkill? We have never been to Alaska before so are trying to see as much as possible but is this too much?

Are you going on a cruise and that is how you're getting the Glacier Bay & Icy Straits access? And now you're wondering if the Tracy Arm FJords is overkill or just right? From my experience, each place hold similarities but the differences make it enchanting. I talked with a couple on our cruise who had done the Tracy Arm Fjords cruise and really liked it.
Of those three, my favorite was Tracy Arm. However, all three are amazing places to visit.
AMPM: we were overwhelmed with Glacier Bay and the Mendenhall Glacer...also enjoyed the ubiquitous totem poles in Sitka and Ketchikan...the long walk through tranquil, beautiful
Sitka National Historic Park was a highlight. Alaska was my 50th state. Want to see more of it...perhaps some day. We are definitely not cruisers, but being open-minded we throughly enjoyed the 8-day HAL cruise with such ample time at each stop. Only other cruises: marvelous Viking river cruise in Russia, barge trip in Alsace and a freebie to Mexico (I was a guest lecturer...no, not lecherer!). Not sold on cruising, but admittedly it was fun and carefree. Here are my photos which may give you some overview.

thanks for your replys. I think I solved my own question. Just found out my DH can not take more than 10 work days off at a time so I have to cut some days so that leaves out Tracy Arm. We are not going on a cruise, but flying into Juneau & then flying to Gustavus & then flying to Anchorage where we are planning on driving (lots of driving) to see everything we can in the 16 days we will have.
