What month should I go on my first Alaska cruise?

I have been the second week in June on two different occaions. The weather was great both times (cool but sunny). A friend went in Sept. and said it rained the whole time and in some ports they didn't even get off the ship.

I have spent quite a bit of time in Juneau, and the locals consider the cruise season to be from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There may be a few ships before and after this time, but many of the shops and tourist attractions are closed or have reduced hours. I've had the best luck with weather in July and
August.

Took two Alaska cruises in the 90's - both in the month of June. Had excellent weather both cruises although we had heard, prior to both cruises, that weather at that time of year could be a problem. Advantage of May, early June and
September cruises is lower prices.
