We are hoping to combine some driving in NC and college visits in March. Figured out it worked as they are back in school March 16 at these schools after Spring Break. Would also love to add U of A if possible but NOT necessary:

1. Duke
2. Wake Forest
3. U of NC
4. Elon
* U of A

Also would love to see Biltmore and maybe furniture shop in the High Point or other aweeome areas for this purpose.

Will fly in somewhere but unsure where. Then we'll rent a car.

Why would you be unsure where? If you're visiting colleges thisclose to Raleigh, fly into Raleigh.

Duke, Elon, UNC (not U of NC - no one calls it that, and your aspiring collegian would tell you the same), and Wake are all along I-40 going west from Raleigh-Durham Int'l. High Point is southwest of Greensboro, which is between Elon and Wake.

UVa is straight up Route 29 from Greensboro. I took a trip to see Georgetown and Duke and overnighted at UVa en route and ended up a Cavalier.

We call UNC Carolina.

Furnitureland South is the big furniture place in High Point. It's on 85 business. It's fun to visit.

As an alumnus (graduate school) and parent of an alumna and an alumnus, I can only gratefully second suewoo's clarification: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill IS "Carolina". There are other universities in the University of North Carolina System, but there is only one "Carolina".

Curiously, it was known more commonly for many years as "Chapel Hill" . I don't think that fits as well on a T-shirt.

Don't buy a t-shirt that says "North Carolina"; a simple "Carolina" will do.

When you visit, have lunch at Allen and Son Barbecue on Highway 54, just before you join I-40 west.

Fly into RDU (Raleigh Durham). It will be beautiful there in the spring - your prospective student will likely fall in love with the area. (My daughter went to Elon)

Asheville is about 2.5 hours west of Winston-Salem, home of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Go Deacs. You could go from there to visit Biltmore and then on to UVA. You may find it better to leave that leg for another trip since you have a lot to do.
