Two of the most famous are the Pleasure Chest and Babes in Toyland. I don't remember where they are but they have websites. The Pleasure Chest is in the village and is a bit more touristy- everyone just wanders in to look and they have a wide variety of novelties, clothes, etc. Toys in Babeland is in a different neighborhood (don't remember which) and is a bit more "serious"- you go to buy videos, etc. It is famous because it is very female friendly and oriented. They only carry "chic porn", etc. AT least that is what a review in some magazine said- it was voted the best of the adult shops one year.

Rob, I just spent a month living in an apartment on 45th, less than half a block off 8th. I can assure you that there are a lot more than two adult shops in that area. I can't tell you what each shop offers and maybe most are just videos, but there are a heckuva lot more than two stores!!! OK, so I'll admit that 379 might have been a slightly high estimate (LOL).

The Pink Pussycat boutique is quite famous and tourist oriented. It is on W 4th St. btw Sheridan Square and Sixth Avenue in the West Village. Also, around the corner on Sixth Ave. just below Washington PLace is an extremely birghtly lit and rather garish looking adult shop. Don't know much about that one, but perhaps you could start out at the Pleasure Chest on Seventh as suggested above, walk down W. 4th and then up Sixth, making it a little "adult tour of Greenwich Village." These stores are much more respectable than the video shops in the Times Square area.

The other store Jumbo is referring to is called Tic Tac Toe's Birthday Suit or something like that. They have 2 floors and a variety of clothing and toys.
The Pink Pussycat is well known, but the last time I was there I was disappointed with how much they had. Didn't seem to have even half as much as Tic Tac Toe did considering how popular the store is.
The salespeople in both stores are quite helpful, however!

The Pleasure Chest is on 7th Ave around 10th St or so. I can't offer an opinion on its stock since I've never been inside. There's also a place, the name of which I don't recall, on 6th Ave just north of 16th St. Again, haven't been in, but from window displays, looks to be heavy on clothes.
