A question for the New Yorkers

I will have the opportunity of living in NY for next couple of months and was wondering where is the best place to find out about what goes on in the City. How do I find decent restaurants with very affordable menu and wine (if there is anything like that).
I will be satyin in Midtown.
Thank you.

Read this sight or buy Time Out or New York or even the NY Times. All have good restaurant coverage. NYC has many affordable restaurants. For example, one of the better deals on wine is at Aquavit Cafe, where there is a $35 prix-fixe and you pay something like $15 for wine pairings with each course .. an excellent deal, and there are many similar ones in NYC.

Hi, adeleh! For current activities info on New York City, you might also pick up a Wednesday copy (free in Manhattan) of the Village Voice.

You might also consider buying the Friday edition of the Daily News, which also carries an interesting amount of activities listings.

Enjoy your stay; welcome to NYC. It's nice!

If you'll be here for several months people you meet (friends, co-workers etc) wil give you lots of tips - specially for your neighborhod - and your type of place.

Also - if you check menupages.com you can do searches by area and cuisine with diner reviews and actual menus - if you're looking for something particular.

DebitNM ... you're oh so "rite." I need to watch my typing. Sometimes I know these things but I click the POST button before I really read everything over.

Adelph ... if you tell us more specifically where you'll be living in Manhattan (Midtown east or west), we might actually know some of the good neighborhood restaurants to check out.

9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen (44th to 57th streets) is a good destination for some decent mid-priced restaurants in Midtown.

you might look at www.NYCRG.com.
Roberto Passon, Cara Mia, etc are
very wallet-friendly. or stroll on
on 9th avenue which contains a plethora
of reasonable restaurants.

Actually, ``site'' seems correct to me. This is a website, not a websight.

It is about sightseeing, not siteseeing, though. Hmmm.

I second the recommendation for menupages.com. I've found some of my favorite restaurants (South's on Church Street, Ginger's on 7th and 38th) thorugh that site.
