A 20 min Commute to Boston

For the same overnight rate, you can probably do much better with Priceline or Hotwire, stay in Boston, and not be bothered with commuting. The rates for hotels that are a convenient commute are almost as high as rates in Boston. One disadvantage of commuting is that the last trains leave Boston before midnight, even on weekends.

I live in Boston and I cant believe how expensive it is for lodging!! You can find a lot of cheaper places in Paris and London. I have! Anyway, Maxie was right. Go to some internet site like expedia or do a search for B&Bs. Nothing against Braintree but you dont want to stay there. You'll waste so much time if you do.

Sorry, but although the Motel 6 in Braintree is indeed right next to the T station, you should know that (1) it's also next to a trash-transfer station and stinks in the summer; (2) the ride into Boston is closer to an hour; and (3) it's a welfare motel.
Your question is kinda strange -- why the 20-minute commute? Are you not staying in the city because you're concerned about price? Maxie's right -- an in-town hotel from Priceline would be closer and cheaper. Places like Newton, Waltham, and Needham are really more than 20 miutes away, except for the express buses from Newton Corner.

above. No disagreement, just a quibble, but it takes me 20 minutes or less to get to the Motel 6 in Braintree from central boston no traffic. I go to the Expo etc. there frequently.
As to dump proximity - true. Is the welfare bit a big deal, though? Bottom line, you can't expect to get much in the boston area for the prices they are charging. If you can get in town on priceline, you are obviously much better off doing so.

But, charles, if you check the OP, he's interested in taking public transit.
Plus, how often is there NO traffic along that stretch of highway? I travel that road in mid-afternoon at least once a week (going to son's music lesson) and by 3:30 it's packed with commuters; morings northbound is even worse. So if the OP wanted a 20 minute driving commute during rush hour (i.e., 7-9 AM, 3-6 PM), that's asking a lot.

Perhaps the Best Western motel on Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton would fill the bill. There's a very nice Holiday Inn at 1200 Beacon St., Brookline where the T would take less than 20 min. There's a Park Inn in Chestnut Hill on Rt. 9, but the walk to the T is rather long. Same for the two motels on Soldier's Field Rd. in Brighton...not too convenient to public transportation.
