Hi i hope someone can help me plan my trip, Basically i am arriving into new york city on the 14 oct and fly back to singapore on the 2 nov2012.
My main aim is to visit niagara falls ( Yes it is out of the way and very far but we all have been looking forward to seeing it as airfares to usa from singapore is very expensive hence do want to include this), see folliage, visit boston.
14 oct will be arriving into JFK and also need to get back there to travel home.
15 oct getting a car n driving towards niagara falls hoping to make a stop to break up the journey. hope someone can recommened a place to stop pls.
16,17 oct staying in niagara falls.
18 to 27 oct open to any suggestions
27,28,29 oct hoping to be in boston
30,31 1st nov back in new york
2 nd nov fly home.
Pls help me i did have an itinery but alot have advise me it is back tracking, zig zagging.
I only hope my trip will,include folliage, covered bridges, beautiful scenery and eating lobster.

15 oct drive to niagara falls stopping one stop ( ? where)
16,17 niagara falls was going to leave it as a last stop before new york then realise that the miad of the mist closes on the 27 oct hence change the route.
18,19 driving towards vermont and staying halfway again i ve no idea where is a good place n staying in burlington for 2 nights
22,23 hoping to be in conway
24,25 portland
26,27,28 boston
29, will be a day free to stop between boston and new york.
i may leave the car in boston but i think driving to new york and stopping halfway overnight may be ok..
there are 4 of us.
pls help and advise. will truly appreciate that as i am really at A LOSS .
i dont really care what towns i vist as long as it covers what i want to see.

Since you are coming all the way from Singapore and have limited time, you do NOT want to spend two full days driving. the eight hour one-way drive assumes NO stopping.
I suggest a plan that is not too much more:
1) FLY from NYC to Buffalo, NY
2) Rent a car and drive to Niagara Falls Ontario (about 35 minutes)
3) Two nights in Niagara Falls Ontario
4) FLY from Buffalo, NY to Boston
From there it's open, you can see some of New England and then take a TRAIN from Boston to NYC.
Depending on how long you were in NYC before flying to Niagara Falls, you could spend a few days in NYC before flying home.
An "open-jaw" flight - non-stops- from NYC to Buffalo and then Buffalo to Boston in mid-October is about $175 includes all taxes/fees.
Each flight is less than 90 minutes.
You REALLY want to consider this option instead of all that driving - you'll have two more days to actually SEE stuff.
I hate to say it but you are probably coming too late in the year for foliage. Peak season around Boston is Columbus day weekend - about Oct 10th. If you are north of that - or at a higher elevation - the peak may well be sooner. By the end of Oct the trees will be bare even in the Hudson Valley - never mind NE.
I would move your trip up by 10 days to 2 weeks - so you are in New England.
Agree that the drive to and fro Niagara Falls is a very long two days - but based on yuor schedule that may be your best chance of seeing foliage - since it may well be to late for higher/inner NE. But - do check on the various sights - esp Maid of the Mist. I'm not sure how late into October they are open - hopefully until the end of the month - but I'm not sure. (That area is in the snow belt and they can get winter early.)
If you stick with your original plan to drive from NYC to Niagara Falls you will find there are many places to stop in the Finger Lakes area where you will find peak foliage. Do you like to hike? Ithaca is a nice college town near a few State Parks with good hikes. Skaneateles is also a nice town, on Route 20 which would provide nice scenery and foliage. Letchworth State Park is southwest of Rochester N.Y. and is beautiful at this time of the year. There is a hotel on site, the Glen Iris Inn. Are you going to the Canadian side of the Falls? I would add a day in Niagara on the Lake, a picturesque town filled with shops, restaurants and nice hotels with wineries nearby. It's right down the road from the Falls.
Do understand that the best sights in Niagara - including Niagara on the Lake - are on the Canadian side - and you will (I assume) need a visa for Canada as well as a multiple entry visa to the US. (At the Falls it is relatively easy to get into Canada but much harder to get back into the US.)
