Travel Sizes - Who knew?
I'm sure there are savvy travelers who already know this, but I just found this website:
www.alltravelsizes.com
I wasn't that impressed with it until I found some of the "other" items. I found packets of everything from Advil to Olive Oil, sunscreen and laundry detergent.
No running around to three drug stores to find travel sizes is a good thing!

They built a new Target in our area and it has a great selection of travel size toiletries. I try to keep a travel kit ready so pick things up occasionally rather than stocking up before each trip.

Yes, you can put sunscreen into a travel size container. No, it will not be taken (unless you are doing carry-on only and don't have it as part of your 1-qt. bag).
Problem with sunscreen is you need a LOT of it. for example, I take shampoo, conditioner, etc. in the 1-oz. bottles and they last up to 10 days. BUT I need the full-sized sunscreen, and usually take two different strengths (because I'll use at least 1/2 bottle in 10 days)... so those I pack in a gallon ziplock baggie and put in the bottom of my checked bag.

I use a lot of products, but I hate checking a bag. I buy travel size of my regular department-store brand beauty products on eBay. They have just about everything! That way everything's clearly marked, in a container it was intended for, and I don't have to mess around with decanting it. A quick search turned up travel-size Clinique sunscreen: http://tinyurl.com/d782br.
I have also used sunscreen towelettes to get around having to add a container to my liquid baggie: http://tinyurl.com/dk3w9n.

hlg, I've never bought cosmetics/sun screen from ebay. I'd be worried about expiration date especially on sunscreen. I'm wondering if the Clinique travel size is/was part of a free gift that someone is selling as I've never seen that size in the store.

I love buying my cosmetics on ebay. I especially love buying the large tester sizes of foundation in a couple of colors and refilling the bottles. That way, I can keep triple sets of my cosmetics at home, at the lake and in my suitcase ready to go on the next trip.
Thanks for the minimus site, Travelnut!

Folks,
The 3oz 'problem' will be going away with the deployment of the next generation of detection equipment at security in airports.
The current generation of equipment cannot tell the difference between water and liquid explosives.
The next generation can. It is scheduled to begin being rolled out, so the government says, in mid to late 2009.
The gov't has said that this is the only reason there is a 3oz limitation.
We'll see.
