Travel destination for toddler and a school age child... Semi-adventurous?
We have two children aged 2 and 6, both girls. We live in eastern Canada, and we are looking for a neat travel destination for spring. I am interested in something that would satisfy all of us, and it gets a bit tricky because our children are kind of far apart in age and have different interests. We are not really the all-inclusive/cruise kind of people (not that there's anything wrong with that!), and although we have done Disney with the older child, not wanting to go there this time (at least I am hoping to avoid it). Did I mention the grandparents might tag along?
Was thinking a huge range of places (Florida Keys, Costa Rica, even Europe). But I am interested in seeing what the Fodorites think. I'd like a place that is generally 'safe' in terms of vaccinations and getting around but somewhere a little tiny bit different.
Ideas?
Thanks very much!

Hi,
This would seem to be the perfect forum for your sort of question. Unfortunately relatively few (VERY few actually) Fodorites come to this board. You might get better response if you post threads on the different boards where you might be interested in traveling . . . USA, Central America, Europe, etc. You get a much wider audience on those Forums.

Janisj is right only a handful of us come to this forum.
My thought would be to go see the Canadian Rockies if you have never seen them.
My sport is geocaching (with a handheld GPS) It is a worldwide sport that you can start with near home and then branch out when you go to a new place. I have seen families that start geocaching when their children are young and they continue for years.

We just got back from 3 weeks in Italy, with our son, DDIL, and the Princess Grand Baby (26 months). She had a blast, loved the food, and was well received by most every Italian she met. (Well, with the exception of the bathroom attendant at the Borghese, but that's another post.) No matter what your older child's age, there would be a wide range of adventures for her. We spent a week in Rome, a week in Florence and a week driving to and visiting family in Le Marche. Fun times, and amazing photo ops.
