Solo travel to Canada

Hi everyone!
I am travelling solo to Vancouver this summer. I am in my early 20's and female. This would be my first trip on my own and I am very encouraged from reading everyone's posts. For all of you seasoned solo travellers, do you have any suggestions for accomodations? Do you prefer luxury type hotels? I know that since I am by myself I want to feel safe. I don't have a problem eating alone, but it seems like after a while it could get a little lonely. Are there any types of hotels or types of resturants that I should stay away from as a solo traveller? Thanks!

Vancouver-my home for many many years now-is safe as houses in fact for younger people like you it's said to be somewhat boring after a while.
People here aren't all that outgoing though-many seem to feel that they're '<i>busy</i>' when in fact they are just self absorbed.
Generally though people are polite and when asked directly for directions respond with kindness.
Accommodations?
There's everything here from flophouses--C&amp;N Hostel-to 5 star hotels galore and everything in between.
The HI Hostels are excellent deal and some have private rooms for rent as does the YWCA.

Lots of choice too in terms of eating options especially downtown-ethnicities abound.
Activities?
Rent Rollerblades or a bicycle and do the Stanley Park Seawall.Take a Kayaking tour/take a bus to Lynn Canyon

Like to feel safe and cozy? I like B&amp;Bs. Large hotels which cater to business types are usually too impersonal for me.
As for restaurants, there's no place I'd stay away from, although it may be easiest to eat at casual places, where lots of other singles eat.

I was just about to reply about how B&amp;Bs are the best, but Lea beat me to it.

When I was in Vancouver, I stayed at this incredible B&amp;B called Johnson Heritage Inn

http://www.johnsons-inn-vancouver.com/

I can't praise it enough!!

As much as I love B&amp;Bs though, I did treat myself to a 2 night luxury hotel (The Listel on Robson) for my last 2 nights. They were running a huge promo which included breakfast and a $25 GC to Chapters bookstore ... anyway, staying in the hotel made me feel very special - I am glad it was only for 2 nights though ... I realy prefer the &quot;homeyness&quot; of a B&amp;B.

Email me (I left my address on the other thread) and we can talk about Vancouver.

a nice b&amp;b! I travel alone all the time (i tackle australia next year!) but when i hit telluride,co for spring ski season, i had no reservations there were hotels, motels and b&amp;bs i found a great b&amp;B that had private bath, tv in room (how is that different from a hotel?) hot tub on the deck, pm wine and cheese and a gourmet breakfast to boot. got to meet locals, the family pet etc... ireland also b&amp;bs, however if you are on a mission ie, i hike a lot and it's out at daybreak and back at nightfall, all you need is a shower and a bed!(i'm grown up now i don't have to prove i can still camp on my own) as to eating out, just go for it, not everyone is a couple and we all have to eat. life is too short to worry about what people think about you eating alone! have a great time - solo travel lets you do what you want and bail when you want. no hassles except the ones you want!
