huge trip cross canada then back home through states
road trip planned for next summer
places planned to visit are Edmonton, Calgary , Vancouver , then on to the states San Francisco, Los Angeles , las vegas, not sure what way we are going to go back to T.O.
need some suggestions for things to do along the way and any interesting affordable
places to go .
also will be camping for most of the trip but want cheaper motel/hotels to stay in . we are travelling with a small dog.

1. You should post this on the United States and Canada boards.
2. What/where is T.O.?
3. I just did a cross-continent trip, but by train (see mytimetotravel.wordpress.com for my TR). I stopped in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver, Jasper, Ottawa and Montreal, but if you're camping you'll want smaller places. Scenery around Jasper was stunning, though, don't short-change the Rockies.

Actually "T.O." is commonly used in Canada. Tina_EarleAntoine did not just make this up bc she thinks Toronto is the centre of the universe.
"T.O. pronounced 'Tee-Oh'. Sometimes used as T-dot, T-dot-O, or T-dot-O-dot." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Toronto

Yes, but these forums are visited by people from all over the world, but I would guess mainly Americans. So, again just proving my point that people from Toronto think they're the center of the universe and that everyone else will automatically know what "T.O." referred to.
And just to be clear, my first reply was meant as a joke on the stereotype. I have no idea what Tina_EarleAntoine think about themselves or Toronto.

Did we scare away Tina & Earl? It has been nearly 2 weeks since we heard from them.
In October 2001 I rode the ViaRail Canadian from Toronto to Winnipeg. I met a gentleman who had 2 dogs in the baggage car. While the engine was refueling in Hornepayne in the middle of the night, he got up and exercised and fed the dogs and put them back in the baggage car. I don't think Amtrak allows that.

Amtrak only allows service animals. See: http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/Conten...=1248543529563
Via Rail only allows pets in baggage cars, which means not all trains will carry them. See: http://www.viarail.ca/en/useful-info...ravelling-pets
I thought that T.O. likely meant Toronto, but it was so close to B.O. that I had my doubts that Toronto actually chose to be known that way. And since this is an international forum, that kind of abbreviation is very likely to be misunderstood.
