Anniversary trip
Hello,
Our wedding anniversary is coming up and we would like to take a trip somewhere. We would love to go out of the country, but we are on a budget. We live in Oklahoma. Our budget is about 1500 for everything (including flights). PLEASE HELP!!!

That is a tight budget for flying. It's a lot of money, don't get me wrong, but, conservatively, half of it could easily go for flights alone.
I always suggest DC for people on a budget because if you can get flights under $300, many, of not most, attractions are free there.
Would you be willing to drive instead of flying?
And lastly, what do you two like and dislike? History? Shopping? Food? Outdoor stuff? The beach? Knowing more about you will help people give better suggestions.

Thanks for your reply NewbE.
It is a really tight budget, but we can can only be gone from Thursday to Sunday not the whole week.
I have been to DC and yes it is a great place to visit.
We are in our early 20's celebrating out 1 yr anniversary. We Did not get to celebrate our honeymoon, so we want to use this as our mini honeymoon. We love food and each pretty much anything, we love to shop, we enjoy the outdoors and we would like a beach, but lakes or rivers will do. We would consider a cruise as well.
Hope this help a bit.
PS. We looking for late October (yes, I do realized we are late in the whole planning process)

Is that $1500 for two? That's pretty low...
Looks like you could get flights on Southwest within your budget, so maybe fly to Florida and rent a car to get to Key West? Or fly to New Orleans, where you might not need a car. I was thinking Canada, but the flights are too expensive. You may be better off staying closer to home and driving. Any good national or state parks nearby? Or just pick a really nice hotel or B&B that's usually out of your price range.

You can find dirt cheap flights on this website:
I don't think you should stay in America!! Branch out!! And find winter deals!

Thank You all!!!
We are willing to go 2000 for the 2 of us for the 3 nights.
Thursdaysd- We just moved from Fl last yr and we just got back from seeing family in Fl last month. We are considering New Orleans, but we really wanted to go out of the country. PR is home to us so we wanted to go visit somewhere else.

How about Mexico? There's tons of information on the Mexico board about the various beach destinations, but you could head for the interior, instead. We were in Oaxaca earlier this year and really loved it. You wouldn't need a car if you went there, you could just book a driver if you wanted to visit ruins or craftspeople outside of town.
I like the idea of New Orleans, too. It's not out of the country, but it is a unique American city, if you've never been.
Austin? You could drive...

Well, Jetblue flies to Medellin and Bogota in Colombia, which is a place I'd like to visit (although I'd want to to to Cartagena) but you'd need to get to Florida first. I think Spirit flies cheaply to South America, but they're not an airline I'd want to use. Late October is a bit late for Canada, except perhaps for Vancouver.
You might find a deal on a Caribbean cruise - not my idea of a good time, but lots of people love them. Working with a TA may be the best route for that - check out cruisecritic.com. I'm afraid you won't get to Europe or Asia on that budget, and you don't have enough time to make it worthwhile in any case.

Unfortunately I really don't think you can get to anyplace out of the country - unless you find a great deal on travelzoo or something like that. Or maybe look at a package through Costco. Or perhaps someplace on the coast of Mexico would fit your budget. Airfares will be the problem.
Even if you could find airfares under $400 (not likely) you'd only have $700 ($1200 if you go up to $2000 total) for everything else.
The cheapest place for you to fly is probably Las Vegas - and then rent a car and visit Zion and Bruce Canyon. Rental cars are pretty cheap in Vegas and three days would be rushed but doable for Zion and Bryce.

Saving for the trip is a great idea. Start with the small things first like drinking coffee at SB or eating lunch out.
Perhaps not those things in particular but those little repeating items. You'll be surprised how much you can save.
Happy travels.
