a tablet for travelling...which one ?

My girlfriend is looking to buy a tablet. We know that Apple got the best tablet avaible but we are looking for the one to get for her usage :

1) 9-10 inch (we already got a 7 inch nexus fhd)

2) reading : E-books, magazine, electronic newspaper (Lapresse+)

3) Movie watching

We're goins in a one month trip in Germany this summer and she wants something to carry movies, read and small gaming.

Right now we are thorn between 2 thing (more or less the same price):

Samsung tabs s2 (32 gb, can add sd card, use to android tablet with the nexus)

Ipad air 2 64 refur Apple still got the ebst tablet, exclusive app). We read that refurb is as good as new is it true ?

Thanks !

If you are simply using it to consume content, you want small and light, with as small a screen as you can tolerate. Look at the specs for weight. I would buy the lightest.

I blog while I'm traveling, so I need a reasonably sized keyboard, and am currently using an iPad Air2. Have no experience with refurbs, I traded my old iPad in for the new one (I think I got $64 off).

I use an iPad Air 2 128gb and love it! Beginning to wonder why I have a macbook air too! Not the greatest for reading books but few tablets are. kindle or other e readers are much better ( or so I am told). Fine for online newspapers. Not great in direct sunlight but fantastic for watching movies and tv. Got a great deal at Sydney airport duty free.

Most refurbs come with a limited guarantee but that is only as good as the provider. There is not a great deal that can be refurbished in a tablet, so basically it will be a second hand piece that has been cleaned up.

Samsung is Ok, of course. I also heard good things about Sony: http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/product...ria-z2-tablet/

And Apple devices seem a bit too pricey to me.

I like Samsung tablets. But in your shoes I'd probably use the 7" you already own.

I'd just use the 7" and tell your girlfriend to deal with it. BUT, if you are looking for an excuse to spend money, check out the Nexus 9: http://amzn.to/1ZELv1D

We know that Apple got the best tablet avaible

Debatable.

Thanks for those answers.

Of course the 7 inch could do the trick but it's my tablet, withs my apps and games. My girlfriend want to have her own.

The Nexus 9 could be a good idea but it's not avaible in Canada or it's really overpriced.

Maybe the Ipad air 2 is note the ebst tablet (which one is ?), but it's on the top 3 or 5 just like the Tab s2.

Is she a bigger movie watcher or reader? I'm a bigger reader and the only time I think I'd watch movies on vacation is during the flight. Does she have a smartphone?

Anyway, I ask because the cheapest and most workable option (for readers) is something like a Nook or another ereader. It's lighter, harder to break, cheaper, and much better for reading books. I love my iPad but I seriously hate reading books on it. Then she uses her cell phone for Google and games, and shares your tablet for watching movies.

A good compromise would be an iPad mini. Still wouldn't beat an ereader for me, but it would satisfy all her basic requirements.

If you're talking about Nooks, why not just get an Amazon Fire tablet? http://amzn.to/1qIxNPd

It's the shiny screen that bothers me (especially outside in the sun) and the battery on the tablet like ereaders does not last as long. I mean the basic ereaders. I think Amazon's version is called the kindle paperwhite? You can't do anything on them except read, but they store more books than you'd ever go through, and the battery lasts all vacation.

But like I said, I'm definitely more of a reader than a movie watcher
