Buquebus question for AVRooster
Hello AV. Do you know if it is necessary to book the Buquebus to Montevideo in advance? I will be travelling on a weekend (8-10 March) and a quick look online tells me a lot of departures are sold out. I would prefer to book when I get there and am hoping there are departures not listed online. Do you have any insider knowledge?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Oh, oh! I LOVE it when some one asks me a question directly, but I'm not going to be of much help with yours.
May I ask WHY you prefer to book when you get here?
I'll ask top TA DE MarnieWDC, who is just back from Uruguay, to post her thoughts on the subject.
Let's hope she is not offended by the fact that your question was directed to me. Just kidding! LOL!!!

LOL. Glad I made you smile.
Why do I prefer to book when I get there? You never know what's going to happen, it adds an element of excitement, gives me a chance to go with the flow... Actually, don't worry, have already done it through the Uruguay site!

Hola Gertie,
Generally, a few days in advance of your trip is quite sufficient for even a weekend reservation on BQB. 8-10 March might be a particularly busy weekend (AV could weigh in on that ?) but I doubt it. In any case, you would have the advantage of knowing more about the weather(and sea) conditions if you book after you arrive here....the disadvantage would most likely be that you could have to buy a more expensive ticket than had you purchased much ahead of your trip.
Have a fun time in BsAs.

Gertie: A little reading told me you are quite a traveler.
Your OP above suggests you will soon be in Argentina.
If you'd enjoy a GTG with yours truly and possibly other Fodor's/TA posters, just let me know.

Oh AV!! I would love to.
I will be in Buenos Aires arriving 5 March, leaving 8 to Montevideo. Back on 10 until 12th. To Santiago and all points Chilean. Back in Buenos Aires again 31 March until 5 April.
How can I send you my e mail without publishing it all over these forums?

My e-mail is all over this forum.
It is albertovgalloATyahoo.com
The best time for this possible GTG would be March 6 or 7. Maybe March 5, if you are not tired from your trip.
I'll be anxiously watching my mail! LOL!!!

Hi travelers,
I will be in BA Dec 25-31 and would like to spend a day in Colonia. I sadly see that both Buquebus and Colonia Express are sold out. Any chance I may find last minute tickets if I go to Puerto Madero? Are there any other smaller companies operating the route?
Muchisimas gracias,
Kat

Well, katoula, the dates you are looking at are the dates when many Argentines who spend their holidays in Uruguay leave BA. So, it's not at all surprising those dates are sold out.
However, I found tickets for those dates on
http://www.seacatcolonia.com/index.php?sitelanguaje=EN
The problem is the reduced availability BA/Colonia. No problem returning.
Have a great time in my town, Kat.
