Hi, I will be traveling with my husband to Europe for 3 weeks, 6 nights in London, 2 nights in Bruges, 5 nights in Paris then a 7 night river cruise. I have it all secured except Paris accommodations. I have been told the 4th Arrondissement is one of the better areas to stay in due to close to attractions. Our travel dates are October 18 (arriving to London) through November 8 (fly home from Paris). We rented a AirB&B for London, a B&B for Bruges, and were thinking about a hotel for Paris, with restaurant and bar, but open to hotels without it. Any recommendations for hotels? I'm open to all areas and we will be traveling by train, so no parking needed. Thank you.

That sounds like a wonderful trip!
What is your budget? That makes a big difference.
We really like the 6th but map out where you will be visiting and what is the most sensible, to be nearby.
The great thing about Paris is that it is so walkable and easy to get around.
The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th are all nice, too.

We stayed in the 6th as well. It's very, very convenient. We walked just about everywhere. We stayed at the Hotel Bonaparte but I don't think it has a restaurant and bar. The hotel does serve breakfast although we chose to eat breakfast out every morning.

And I agree with coral22, you have a wonderful trip planned. I am envious!

The 6th is for us also. Close to The Seine and walk to many sites.

Love your trip including the river cruise. My guess is Paris will steal your heart. Just did our 15th time to Paris in December and it was one of our best.
We usually rent an apartment but if not our favorite hotel is The Madison on Blvd, St.Germain

BTW…..the best “new thing” we did in December in Paris was rent a 1938 Citroen with a driver from City Wheels to take us around the city at night. Fabulous I say!

Prefer the 5th and 6th arr in Paris way more than the 4th. With your budget you should have no problem. Did you end up booking that B&B in Bruges I mentioned? Oh gosh, we loved that place.....

Just find St. Germain de Pres far more enchanting than the Marais. And the shopping is divine.

Difference between the 4th and the 6th so you can make an informed decision:

The 4th is chock full of lots of cute, unique boutiques, bistros, nightlife, restaurants and "faster" style food (including the BEST falafel.) Unfortunately, it's also often chock full of people - lots of tourists and even Parisians pack into the Marais (especially on the weekend) to take advantage of everything it offers. If you want a fast-paced feel to your trip, this is the place to stay.

The 6th is a bit slower, still with lots of bistros, restaurants, and shops (although maybe not QUITE as many as the Marais, and a bit more residential) but is usually less crowded, a little less touristy (just a little - these are both popular tourist neighborhoods) and in my opinion, a little more elegant. I know everyone loves St. Germain, but I actually prefer a little farther back in the 6th closer to Luxembourg Gardens, which feels a little more local and less fancy - and being able to take breaks in the garden is SO lovely.

Obviously I'm a little biased towards the 6th, but either choice will be great! Hope this is helpful.

6th by far the best and most convenient for a tourist. 5th would be my next choice and is also cheaper. 4th would be my third choice though I think is a bit overrated. This is assuming you want to walk to most everything.

One that I think is very much underrated is the 14th. 10 minutes by metro to the centre or 20-25 min walk. It is cheaper but also very much a vibrant neighborhood without the tourist gluts in 4-6 if you don't like that. It is a 5 min walk to the Luxembourg garden

Another vote here for the Hôtel Madison, where we've stayed four times. Lovely rooms with good baths; some with little balconies. Great location.

Wow!! this is great information, thank you for taking the time to right it. I'm leaning towards the 6th after all that info, my husband and I are 60, although not old, we just aren't into the nightlife or crowded areas. Thank you again! Great info
