North Norway trip. Is Tromso the best option?

We will be traveling to Norway next summer in August and we want to travel to the arctic circle.
The idea is to travel from Oslo by plane and stay for 3 days in the area.
Is Tromso the best option?
How is public transportation there?
I suppose renting a car is a must to be able to have freedom to move. I read that taxis are very expensive in that area.

We visited Tromso from our Hurtigruten ship which I highly recommend. We walked all over Tromso easily and took a bus at one point. There was a tourist office with information and maps. There is lots to see in Tromso-Artic Cathedral, Polar Museum, Polaria.

Tromso is a good option. You can visit the Arctic Cathedral and the Arctic Museum. We walked everywhere and took a bus too.

Thank you for sharing information about Tromsų. I've only been to Bergen and Stavanger when I visited Norway, which is why I also haven't seen the Northern Lights. This hasn't stopped me from dreaming of going back to experience the spectacular show of lights.😍

Everything in expensive in Norway.

But if Tromsų is the best option or not depends a lot on what you are looking for. And if you want to travel to the arctic circle, Tromsų is a bad option as it is about 350 km from the arctic circle.

Fyris, I thought Tromso is a great place to see the Northern Lights. Why do you say it's not a good option?

I didn't say anything about the northern lights. If the lights are important, Tromsų is not a bad option. Although there are better places in my opinion.
