Maui wildfires...

... and the destruction in Lahaina -
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/0...hipped-flames/
Unbelievable!

"Much of historic Lahaina town believed destroyed as huge wildfire sends people fleeing into water"

Terrible! Such a beautiful island! I couldn't even read the article. In my local news - they "fished" people out of water, they tried to get away from the fires. But so far only 1 person injured, no deaths, so there is something good.

This is devastating news. Lahaina holds a special place in my heart, as does all of Maui.

I am absolutely sick to read about this. Maui also holds a special place in my heart. I heard reports that the old Pioneer Inn is gone and many of the boats in the harbor. I sure hope the old tree survives. Sad!

There are fires on the Big Island, too.

This is so scary and horrible. One of my friends lives in Wailea, all night last night she was messaging me with updates and photos of the fires that were coming closer to her; she was packed and ready to evacuate if they gave the order. I haven't heard from her yet this morning.
The condo building my brother always stays in in Lahaina first had its roof blown off by the winds, then the fire burnt it down.
My friend said people were running into the ocean to get away from the fires and the hospital has been overwhelmed by burn victims.

We have spent countless wonderful holidays in Hawaii, this is heart wrenching to see.

Oh no! That wonderful tree! I am so sad. My heart breaks for the Hawaiian people and all the history lost

This is just terrible. We spent Christmas in Lahaina one year. Our hotel was next to the tree and we drank wine on our balcony in the evening looking at the tree.

My husband's cousin and his family live on the Northern side of Maui. They are OK so far, thank heavens. I just heard that at least 6 people have died. This is so sad.

we stayed in Lahaina in January. Our hotel is on front Street and it appears that that area has been badly damaged. I just can’t believe it.

A relative left this morning to return to her home of 20 yrs. on Maui. She lives in Makawao in the middle of the island. We just read where they are evacuating Kula just south of her.
Have no idea if she will land or be able to get home.

Lahaina is a mess. We’ve stayed there and also Napili Kai resort just north of Lahaina. Thought about going back….obviously not for a while with this news.

We’ll be watching every minute to see how they can be helped.
