Bahamas vs British Virgin Islands

I am a high school senior about to graduate and am planning a senior trip. We were thinking about going to Europe, but it may be too expensive given that we are going to be having myself, a friend, my two younger brothers, and my parents. We have been to the Bahamas twice before, when I was younger, but never to the British Virgin Islands. Both my parents have gone years before and said it was fun (they went sailing) but I'm nervous about being on a boat for so long in a crowded space. We want to go sometime in July for about 10-14 days. We're looking to be able to relax but to also be able to go exploring and what not.

What exactly are your questions? The Bahamas are very different from the BVI's and comparisons are difficult without knowing where in the Bahamas you've visited. As you probably know there are over 800 islands and cays in the Bahamas and they are all very different.

For what it is worth, the BVI's are the sailing capital of the Caribbean but you can also do land only vacations.

Other than "relaxing & exploring" what are some of the activities that interest you and the people in your group? Define "what not"???????

Congratulations on your graduation. I would presume you are not going to limit your upcoming trip to the Bahamas or BVI because those are places that your family visited in the past? It would be more helpful it you gave us an idea of your and your family's interests and approx. budget and where you are travelling from. Do you prefer white sand beaches over rainforests? Activities that interest you? Are you looking for islands that can be reached more easily/direct flights versus ones that are more difficult to get to but you get a lot more privacy? Hotel vs villa? Price per night per room at the hotel that fits in your budget would be helpful. Some islands are on the more expensive side such as Turks and Caicos, Anguilla and Grand Cayman but boast stunning white sand beaches. Others such as St John offer a great mix of white sand beaches and snorkeling but typically most people rent villas and a car to get around. Of course the Dominican republic and Mexico are popular all inclusive destinations. So you really need to provide details about what you are looking for in your vacation.
