Report was from friends of a couple we know ... they were at Las Palmas about 1 week ago and are claiming that food service, room cleaning etc had been affected by refusal to work by staff. They feel that they and quite a number of other guests became ill due to the food being sabotaged. As I don't know these people personally, I'm always more than a little skeptical of the stories from friends of friends .. Thought this was a good place to check it out!

Why don't you guys try to contact the hotel administration directly. I did have an e-mail address for the assistant manager, but can't locate it at present. I do have an e-mail address at home and if my brain can remember when I get home from work I will e-mail the hotel. If I get any info I will post it.

Thank-you Anne-Marie. I'm going to pursue this rumour a little further and see if I can pin this chap down. It seems that he has already made public complaints on a travel site, but I can't locate it .. nor can I get any personal response via email to date. I am always annoyed by people who blame overindulgences on food, water etc. for illnesses and sully the name of reputable properties. This wildcat claim is a new one!

Anne Marie:
I too emailed the Las Palmas property and have yet to receive a response.

I have heard from the people who were at Las Palmas from November 30 - December 7 and believe their claims were valid. From their description, there were significance staffing problems during that time period which affected meal service and room maintenance. Apparently the dining room staff refused to work due to non-payment of wages. They believe this hotel may be in financial difficulty as rooms were poorly maintained, toilet paper hard to obtain, towels in bad condition etc. They are still under doctor's care and will be pursuing this further when they are able.

Hi Bert. It would probably be a helpful to post an "Anybody been to Las Palmas lately?" inquiry on one of the P.V. boards. I'm you will get more info there. They are specifically P.V. and there are regulars on those boards who will know what's going on, and you will also be able to get some recent trip reports from anyone who has just returned from Las Palmas. Try todopv.net or the official Mexico bulletin board (sorry I can't remember the address b/c it's on my favourites so I never need to actually know it, but it's easy to find on a search)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think there were legitimate reasons to seek recourse, but at this point I'm going to let these folks sort it out on their own. I've made numerous suggestions to them, but it seems they see more value in continuing to complain rather than take any steps to seek compensation or resolve the problem. Apparently their AE agent indicated that she could not recommend the property even before they booked, so ... caveat emptor!
