Thanks for any advice! We are trying to get our Kodak Underwater (one-time camera) developed of our "snorkeling trip" in Cozumel. I would like "richer" colors and quality pictures. I remember reading somewhere to ask for special processing. We went to our Ritz camera location and they didn't know what I was talking about. I called Kodak and I think there are only 3 places in our state that will do "sea processing"! I think the info. sounded odd! I think I read that KMART would do special processing but not according to Kodak. So, is it really just the same processing as Ritz or KMART or is it worth sending it to some remote place? Maybe I am misunderstanding - any help would be great!

TVL: Contact a professional photo lab in your area - one that doesn't mass produce the development of photos. Otherwise, you can mail your camera to a Kodak facility. I've done this before.

Most pictures taken above 30ft will have excellent color, especially if they were taken on a bright sunny day (like those found famously in Cozumel). Kodak Sea Processing is a good way to get better color from your underwater photos. Kodak does a good job at adding back the colors of light that can be lost during a dive or snorkel adventure due to water's tendency to eliminate the red spectrum faster than the blue. What this means is that the deaper you go, the more blue your images will be. If you spent all of your time snorkeling, and were at the surface of the water, you probably don't need Sea Processing. If you took pictures of things that were far away (deeper than 20-30ft from the surface) and want to get back some color, then Sea Processing is probably for you. You can correct blue shift yourself if you have an underwater flash while taking your photos, or want to spend a lot of time in Photoshop editing your pictures. I have processed a few rolls through Kodak Sea Processing and was happy with the results, and the wait was not too bad either. You can get a mail-in envelope from most local dive shops should you have one in your area. It is definitely not the same processing that you will get from Ritz or K-Mart. A lot of mini-labs used by your typical one-hour photo shop can help to correct for some color shift due to water or odd lighting, but they don't go the extra mile that Sea Processing does to help ensure your pictures will look right. If you have any doubts about the results you will get from your local lab, send it to Sea Processing and pay the extra money, I don't think you will be dissapointed. Good luck with your pictures!
