Suze or others --Puerta Vallarta question

I don't have lightweight electronics with which to send emails while in PV.

How is the internet cafe situation in Puerta Vallarta? Will there be places where I can send emails?

Also, Suze, I'd like to know where you are staying in P.V. so that I can be in touch. I'll be staying at Posada de Roger from October 29 until November 14. If you want, you can be in touch there, or we can exchange emails.

When you let me know this is okay with you, I'll send you my email address and you can respond to it.

hola Peg, I never travel with any electronics either and yes I do go to an internet café almost daily to email my sister and check Trip Advisor or anything else I might need.

There are lots of cute places scattered around. My favorite last year had 4 computers in an ice cream parlor (lol) but that has since closed.

The one I know best that is closest to your hotel... walk down B. Badillo (the street your hotel is on) towards the beach/ocean ~2 blocks, then at the cross-street with Olas Altas you will see Café Vayan across the street, right on the corner http://cafevayan.com/ The prices are very reasonable and the people are nice there.

I would be thrilled & honored to meet you in PV! Let's email. You can reach me at [email protected] and I'll give you my real email address. Or if you have an email you can post publicly here, I'll write to you.

If ALL else fails I will drop by the hotel and leave a note for you at the front desk. Arriving the 5th staying at an apartment a couple blocks away but won't have a phone.

I have breakfast or lunch at Fredy's Tucan (the restaurant at your hotel) most days, so that would be an easy way to meet.

Have not been to PV in several years But as I go for 2 or 3 months a trip to Mexico I take my Chrome book always. Light weight, inexpensive & great for e-mail, streaming movies etc & free video chat back to home makes it a must for myself.
PS Any decent size city/town or even village has a Internet cafes in today's Mexico.

hola Stewbear, If (when!) I am lucky enough to spend a few months at a time in Mexico, I would definitely buy a tablet or travel laptop. But for a couple weeks in a town like Vallarta the internet cafes are easy (fun) to use.

I too find it an immeasurable asset to have my laptop with me whenever in Mexico. One time it broke down and we went over to WALL MART to purchase a smaller unit. Yes, going to the internet cafe is fun, but after a while it gets repetitive and impractical. Nothing like sipping your morning coffee while browsing the internet in your PJ,s.

You'll find even more as you go east (away from the beach) towards the more residential areas, the locals may not have an internet connection at home and there are dozens of cyber cafes at very cheap prices, from 8-10 pesos an hour !!
Do come to our Trip Advisor Meet&Great on Tuesdays, 5:30pm (after our clocks change on the 25th) at Pour Favor, just 2 blocks from your hotel, Lázaro Cárdenas # 245.

Yes the cafes are very inexpensive. Before I had internet at my place in Zihua & before Chrome I'd drag my 7 plus #s 17" computer to the cafes paying as little as 5 pesos per hour.
My only problem on using a Cafe equipment computer is security when doing financial/personal stuff as I hear stories of "readers" on some stealing you info. Now if you are just doing general research or e-mail it is fine.

I also like the inland cafes that Cabron describes, I just didn't know how to the name or give address of any specific one for Pegontheroad.

I'm always the only gringa there, among all the local kids doing their homework. It's a fun way to get a glimpse of neighborhood life. These little shops are only the computers usually (not 'cafes' as far as food or beverage service).

I like the idea of being with the kids when they're doing their homework and of getting a glimpse of neighborhood life.

Seeing neighborhood life is a big part of why I'm going to Mexico.

I don't generally do beaches, and I don't shop, so wandering around in town is one of my goals.

There's a cyber cafe with AC on Carranza #345 just before (west of) Insurgentes, see map http://vallartainfo.com/vallarta-southside-map.html
