Hey amigos,

I'm a 23 year-old bloke wanting to head off to central america (or colmbia/ecuador area) and spend a couple of months in one place surfing, hanging out with people, learning some spanish and partying a bit.

I'm trying to find a location where I can do this which has the right balance between:
- a sociable number of people around, but not crowded.
- a higher proportion of locals around to integrate with. want a place where travellers are just part of the community, not what the place is built on and travellers are purely business for the locals.
- clean waves. i'm a beginner so not ferocious swell.
- handful of bars to go out and get pissed in. maybe a couple of clubs but nothing opulent.
- a cool hostel where u can find a good gang of travellers from all over. not one where the same breed of people come through day-in day-out

obviously this^ is the ideal situation so don't expect people to reel off a list of places that tick them all, but if anyone knows of a little gem out there then i'd love to hear about it

well, I'm not a surfer but I think the PUerto Escondido area is supposed to be the place for that, and it's definitely not just built for tourists (like Cancun).

ON the other hand, you have a very big wish list, places known for language schools for foreigners are usually in different places than surf spots.

There are several hostels there, like
Vivo Escondido
Tower Bridge
Puerto Dreams
Pacific Buddha

You can google them to get their info.

There are several language schools there, though, I have no idea if they are good or not. How about Oasis Surf and Language School, kill 2 birds with 2 stone:
