Hello. I've also posted a message on the Honduras Forum. So if you've read that one, too, please forgive the duplicate explanation.

I'm cruising with a group of 14 in late June. One of our ports is Belize City, Belize. Our group ranges in age from 8 to 50. A few are divers, most are snorkelers and a couple don't swim at all.

Everything I've read about Shark Ray Alley makes me really want to go there. Maybe it's just me, but it looks confusing to get to, though. It seems that by booking our own package, we can go for much cheaper than the package the cruise ship offers.

If we do that how difficult is it to get to? Will will be able to go and enjoy it and still get back to the ship in plenty of time? Are there things to do nearby for the non-snorkelers/divers in the group that might still want to go?

Any advice you can offer on tours, prices, directions, weather, opinions, reviews, etc. would be very much appreciated.

Absolutely use the one from your ship. Otherwise, if something goes wrong, such as transportation breaking down, the ship will leave without you. If you're on one of their tours they will either hold the boat or fly you to the next city (worse case scenario).

Another concern is the rapid moving water. Did this tour before, would not recommend going without a crew who has your safety as their primary goal.

We've been to Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan a couple times and never had any problems with current. It must vary considerably with the time of day and the heights of the tides. I'm not a strong swimmer, but really didn't notice the current at all. Jean

Thank you all so much for the valuable information. It sounds like a much safer bet all the way around to book through the cruise line.
