Santiago Crown Plaza to Valparaiso

We were grateful, when signing on, to find that someone has asked about the cost of a taxi from Santiago airport to the Crown Plaza. We need to get ourselves from the Crown Plaza to Valparaiso Pier after our hotel stay. What should we expect to pay for a taxi for the two of us? About how long should the drive take? Would we just flag down any taxi outside our hotel? Is there a time of day when it is more difficult to get a taxi?

Hi, a taxi from the hotel to the pier is like 130 dolars and 1 hour and a half, I recomend you a tour or to rent a car

No, you don't want to just flag down a taxi.It is nearly a two hour drive to Valparaíso. You could do one of two things: when you get your taxi for the hotel at the desk inside the customs area at the airport, get a quote from them for the cost hotel to port. It will probably be in the region of US$120. The other possibility is get the hotel to arrange the transfer. I would actually email them before you arrive in Chile to see how much it would cost and you can compare that to the quote the 'taxi official' gives you on your arrival.

A MUCH cheaper alternative, and equally as safe is to take a Chilean bus. They have bus stops @ 2 of the major subway stops in Santiago - I can't remember their names but if you look at a subway map they will be notated. After getting off the train, walk up the stairs proceed to TurBus ticket counter and pay roughly $8 per person to Valparaiso. It's very safe, very reliable (I believe they depart every 15 min), and just as fast as paying a tour company $100 or a taxi driver as the bus goes nonstop.
I made this exact trek last winter (summer in Chile). There is a subway stop 2 blocks from the Crowne Plaza.
