Returning home
After a 10 year absence I am returning tomorrow to Los Cuatro Vientos , Puerto Vallarta's second oldest inn and my destination for 12 years in the 80's/90's.
My wife and bilingual grandson will be joining me there so we can introduce him our first Mexican love while celebrating his 11th birthday.
And Yes Suze I will do a trip report!

Oh, suze - Molina de Agua!
We used to stay in the little cottages there - watching the horses go by on the beach, rocking in the chairs on the tiny front porches, playing in that grotto-like swimming pool in the courtyard, lazing in the hammocks under the giant banyan tree, and feeding treats to Chango, the monkey.
I absolutely loved Molina - it was such a shock when they put those ginormous condos there.

My family went to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas in 1963..yes 1963. My parents had been there in 1962 and wanted to go back. Obviously, it wasn't the easiest place to get to, particularly when coming from Chicago.
I found this article online this morning:
http://www.pvscene.com/8100/puerto-vallarta-1963/
We stayed at the Posada de la Selva and returned many times.

We went to Repollo Rojo (The Red Cabbage) last night for a most excellent meal. Prices far higher than Guanajuato but still a bargain by California ones.
My grandson had the garlic shrimp which I sampled it being AAA-one.
Linda had the garlic fish again a most excellent choice. I had the best Carnitias I have had since-------------------I guess the last time I was there 10 years ago.Tender succulent in a excellent sauce just spicy enough to remind you it is Mexico. All three came with rice, beans & a large assortment of tasty veggies, tortillas & bread. Far more food than we could consume.
Linda had a Sangria, I a large ice tea & Noz water. After two of us had coffee & we 3 split a fudge Browne ala mode. Total cost just over a 1,000 pesos or about $50 US. probably half what the same meal would have run at a nice place in Oakland.
Our dear sweet Amiga Lola (the owner) threw in Red Cabbage tee-shirts for all 3 of us gratis!!! Now do no expect that if you go as we have been friends for over 30 years.
We will return before our departure.
PS I ate my first 2 nights while alone at Chez Elena at The Hotel Los Cuatro Vientos the first night I ate light having only the excellent Black Bean Soup & a mixed salad & the second the garlic fish with all the trimmings. All the best,
Gloria (the owner for over 35 years) runs a Tuesday special of all meals two for one. Check it out when in town but reservations are a must!
Today: Taking my Nieto snorkeling for his first time.

Yesterday we took a cab to The Linda Mar were we were immediately challenged as outsiders by a security guard (I guess it was the snorkel gear) telling us their elevator was private for their owners access to the beach. I explained to the guy that yes as a previous guest I was aware of their policies but was not the elevator available for the beach restaurant guests as we intended to eat there? He backed off a bit but still informed me that a second guard would challenge us if we did not patronize the cafe (No second guard ever appeared)
Anyways we had a great day. My Grandson took to the snorkel like a pro! We spent the day swimming, snorkeling/exploring AND EATING/Drinking at the beach cafe spending a bit over 800 pesos for the 4 hours or so we were there. I informed the SG who first challenged us of our "contribution" to his employer as he hailed us a cab for our departure for which I tipped him 20 pesos!
All in all a great day!

Our Nieto (Grandson) chose to spend his birthday At El Eden with the zip lines, the waterfall drop & the swing drop into the river. He made a number of amigos playing tag, swimming & water "fights" with his new buddies.
We had arranged with another old cabbie/amigo for his services for the day so he stayed with us returning us to our hotel after a long day at 950 pesos for the day. His name is Roberto & his number is 322-110-1206. Very dependable * decent English. We use him a lot.
Anyways I had not been out to Eden for almost 30 years ago I again was amazed by the growth of that operation.
We capped off a perfect birthday (11th) for Noz going to Joe Jacks for mac/cheese with a round of "happy birthday & cake sung by their staff!
More later.

Great report. I never u see stand the liking for la playita. One of the worst brunches I've ever had and there was a wait. I do understand wanting to snorkel there but we no longer bother with that since we go back and forth from the Caribbean, so PV is just bad in comparison. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Well "married" You do what is available. My grandson had only a few days away from school, not his spring break for his first Mexican experience. Hopefully I can take him to the Caribbean for some first class scuba at a later date But this is a report of a child's first trip to Mexico NOT a report on Snorkeling sites!
PS I have dove all over the world so I feel equal to most to judge sites.
