Peace Lodge alternative

Greetings...I am looking for some help. We are heading to Costa Rica in January 2007. Although the hotels are booked, I am just getting around to booking the flights. As it turns out, I think that we will be arriving one day earlier than we 'need' to be there. Can someone recommend a nice hotel to stay at, in or around the airport/San Jose area? We stayed at the Peace Lodge last year and loved it, but would like to try somewhere different this time. Thanks, Tanya

I'd say ya can't go wrong w/ the Orquideas Inn...it's not nearly as upscale as Peace Lodge, but it's a nice place close to the airport. Nice restaurant too, and the Marilyn Monroe bar is a fun place to get your first Imperial of the trip!

Thank you...That looks nice, I will contact them.
Does anyone else have any suggestions for something with the same quality as the Peace Lodge? Am looking to spend our fist night in luxury!!!
Thank you. Tanya

About 20 min from the airport, we LOVED Vista del Valle. I'd say the chances of them having availability might be slim, but you could check. Even more upscale, try Xandari or Finca Rosa Blanca. . . .

Check out Xandari and Finca Rosa Blanca. I think you will find some pretty special places there.

Vista del Valle Plantation is also a lovely place.

Xandari is wonderful - i didn't stay there, only had dinner and walked around and shopped in their shop which was better than any other place in CR.

Thanks again...I absolutely love the Villa del Valle website and have booked the Mona Lisa room with them. I am sooo excited about it, thank you for the recommendation. Tanya

It's a nice place. You'll enjoy it there. They should be finished with the new dining area by now. The area near the pool will be more like a "juice bar" or something like that, the way Johanna explained it to me. Give us a great report when you return!
